**Job Summary**
- The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security (Dallaire Institute) was established by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide. Reporting jointly to the Executive Director, Dallaire Institute, and the Sr. Director of Development, Office of Advancement for Dalhousie University, the Fund Development Officer is responsible for developing and implementing fund development strategies for the Dallaire Institute. The Fund Development Officer will meet and consult with the Director of Operations and Director of Strategic Relations on the strategies and organizational priorities. These strategies will be designed to maximize fundraising revenue for priorities of the Dallaire Institute and encourage and enable donor engagement, volunteerism and research support.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and support the execution of fundraising calls and solicitations. Coach and collaborate with Dallaire Institute leaders regarding fundraising strategies across headquarters and regional offices to support the development and execution of solicitations.
- Identify, research, and support grant proposals for public sector and institutional funding agencies and supporting the internal processes with Dalhousie University Research Services.
- Maintain a pipeline of potential donors in line with the Institute’s priority areas, providing reputational risk analysis of potential donor opportunities.
- Plan and coordinate special fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives for the Dallaire Institute while building strong relationships with individuals, organizations, and communities of interest.
- Implement a comprehensive and strategic donor / major gift stewardship plan (acknowledgement, naming, reporting, and recognition) to ensure accountability and build strong relationships.
- Continually act as an advocate and ambassador for the Dallaire Institute and Dalhousie University. This entails representing the Dallaire Institute externally and at events held locally, nationally, and internationally.

- The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree with five years of relevant work experience successful proposal writing and solicitation of private donors and foundations (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent coordination skills of multiple tasks and ability to deliver high quality proposals.
- Experience coordinating development of large-scale or strategic proposals.
**Assets**
- French proficiency is strongly desired.
- The ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
- Experience or studies in the following areas will be considered an asset: International Development, Political Science, Communications, Children and Armed Conflict, International Relations, International Law, Peace and Conflict Studies, Peacekeeping, Sociology, Education, Human Rights, Gender Studies, Public Relations, Marketing or Public Policy.
