London, Canada Changing Ways (London) Inc. Full time

**VICTIM/PARTNER CONTACT & WOMEN’S GROUP CO-FACILITATOR POSITION**
- **(Part-time)**_

Changing Ways changes lives by disrupting violence and abuse and plays a pivotal role in contributing to the safety of women, children, and men. This advances our broader goal of achieving equality within a safe community where aggressors are held responsible and the community accountable.

Changing Ways offers a variety of programming/interventions providing clients with an opportunity to examine their beliefs and attitudes towards domestic abuse and to learn non-abusive ways of resolving conflict:

- Partner Assault Response Program (court-mandated)
- Women’s Intervention & Support Program (court mandated)
- Voluntary Men’s Group - Being the Change Program
- Caring Dads Program

As a team member of Changing Ways this position will have an opportunity to experience and contribute to specialized interventions for men who cause harm to women and/or children.

**VICTIM/PARTNER CONTACT**
- (approx. 10 hours per week, dependent on referral volume)_

The Victim/Partner Contact position is the first point of contact for victims, current partners, and mothers referred through the Partner Assault Response, Voluntary Men’s Group, and Caring Dads programs.

As men are admitted to group programming, the Victim/Partner Contact position makes contact with the victim of assault, current partner, or child’s mother to provide information about the program, assess safety risks, develop relevant safety plans, offer support services, provide community referral information, and answer any general questions about the program. Follow-up support calls are offered during the offender’s participation in the counselling group. Services to victims/partners are voluntary in nature, are delivered by phone, and are shaped according to individual’s self-identified needs.

**TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
As each new offender is admitted to the Partner Assault Response group, Voluntary men’s group, or Caring Dads group the contact information of the victim, current partner, or child’s mother is documented and forwarded to Victim/Partner Contact staff who initiate contact by phone. The program for victims/partners is voluntary, confidential, and separate from the work with offenders. Emphasis of contact with victims/partners is to engage in risk assessment, safety planning, and enhancement of support networks via provision of relevant community referrals and resources.

**Victim/Partner Contact provides the following specialized support services**:

- Review and understand/interpret the Changing Ways mandated client/offender referral and supporting documents;
- Follow-up with referring agencies - Provincial Court System, Probation & Parole, Victim Programs;
- Initial victim/partner outreach call to provide introduction to the Victim/Partner Contact Program. Completion of contact relevant to the individual’s identified need and acceptance of service;
- Follow up contact with the goal of offering support during the time the offender is involved in the program including, but not limited to: assessing the victim/partner’s safety risks, creating a safety plan, and offering them information as relevant, to resources and community supports. A minimum of 3-4 contacts is usually provided during the offender's 12-week counselling group to achieve the following:
Ø Provide the opportunity for women to speak out about their circumstances, breaking down isolation and offering authentic, informed support that reflects a deep understanding of the complexities of woman abuse.

Ø Support victims/partners in understanding and engaging in risk assessment and ongoing relevant safety planning.

Ø Support victims/partners in understanding the scope and prevalence of ‘domestic violence’ from a gendered analysis that validates the reality of women’s and children’s experiences.
- Collaboration with the offender’s group facilitator about any concerns raised by the victim, current partner, or child’s mother and determining any immediate actions/next steps to ensure safety of all involved. View to harm reduction related to potential ongoing abuse and safety planning for women and their children;
- Setting up the victim/current partner referral in a digital database and clinical case noting to input all contact session information.

**SKILL SET REQUIREMENTS**:

- An understanding of Intimate Partner Violence from a gendered analysis, and the ability to explain and engage in reflective thinking with regard to how this particularly impacts on women and children as the predominant victims;
- An understanding of coercive control and the complex impact this has on women and children;
- A trauma informed, intersectional lens on supporting victims of Intimate Partner Violence;
- The ability to hold safe space to offer support in a time limited capacity and framework;
- Knowledge of the criminal court system and process for offenders of domestic violence, an
