The Practice Leader provides leadership on a provincial level to further the advancement of infection prevention and control (IPAC) practice for all core programs and in alignment with the best standards set by the World Health Organization, IPAC Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, BC Centre for Disease Control, Canadian Standards Association, PICNet, current research evidence and other appropriate agencies/organizations. The Practice Leader is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan for the IPAC practitioner component of the IPAC Program (the Program) including role development, recruitment, performance enhancement, and continuous professional practice development. The Practice Leader participates in the evaluation of infection control practitioner competency at IPAC sites across PHSA, including periodic practice audits and site visits, assessment of the individual practitioner skills, annual competency assessments, and advising on continued viability of a program team’s consultative process.

The Practice Leader provides practice leadership and IPAC expertise to support efficient and effective consult process at all PHSA IPAC stakeholder program sites by performing tasks such as, advising on the practice level aspects of budget planning including baseline staffing review, core components of practitioner work in each program portfolio, establishing and monitoring quality assurance activities based from surveillance, audit data from a variety of core program components including hand hygiene, reprocessing and healthcare associated infections. Advising IPAC Leadership on issues related to practitioner productivity, stakeholder relation/interaction, intake process, practitioner competency and orientation and quality management.

**What you’ll do**
- Fosters a culture, in collaboration with IPAC leaders, which recognizes and responds to practitioner practice issues through activities such as mentoring, coaching, team building and resource identification.
- Develops and implements processes and communication to ensure IPAC Program consultations quality and safety standards are maintained across the province by performing tasks such as periodic practice audits and quality management site visits, monitoring of stakeholder remediation activities and other quality indicators, implementing orientation process for new practitioners, and following up on practice issues identified on IPAC physician site visits and other quality assurance activities, including facilitation to problem-solve and provision of practice in-services.
- Champions the Province-wide accreditation by coordinating accreditation activities and following-up with the physicians, IPAC practitioners and PHSA site stakeholders, and providing practice support and advice to the IPAC program teams during the accreditation process.
- Develops and implements practice standards for IPAC Program staff integrating national and provincial practice standards and quality service guidelines.
- Recognizes and investigates IPAC practitioners and other staff recruitment/retention issues, and brings forward recommendations to resolve issues including budget ramifications.
- Supports promotion of IPAC through activities such as outreaching to nursing schools, coordinating shadow opportunities at Program sites, developing, implementing and monitoring a mentorship program, and developing web-based and/or media-based professional awareness campaigns.
- Identifies and creates Program related professional practice continuing education opportunities such as the topics and format of the practitioner program at an IPAC Certification Program, stakeholder focused quality service workshops, and site specific in-services to improve positioning and consult quality.
- In collaboration with the IPAC Leadership, IPAC MDs and PHSA Infection Control Committee, plans and coordinates quality initiatives by performing tasks such as determining quality improvement priorities and evaluation schedule, defining a qualitative measurement framework, participate in stakeholder engagement for quality improvement activities, and coordinating quality improvement benchmarks.
- In collaboration with IPAC Leadership, IPAC MDs, Policy analyst and epidemiologist develops and monitors Program policies, guidelines, procedures and standards for professional practice and quality management processes, and maintains related documentation such as manuals, computer files and reference materials.
