Provide collaborative leadership for TPL’s evolution to a trauma-informed culture. The position is
responsible for overall leadership of TPL’s welcoming spaces program and associated initiatives to
foster a safe and welcoming environment for all. The position reports directly to the Director,
Human Resources, and takes direction from the Director, Branch Operations and Customer
Experience (BOCE) on Rules of Conduct and related matters.

**DUTIES**:
prevention, management and resolution, psychological wellness and related areas.
Lead TPL’s team of Library Safety Specialists, ensuring that they are deployed and supported to

address branch safety and security needs.
Chair the Safety and Security Leadership Team1 (SSLT), under the executive sponsorship of the

Director, BOCE and Director, HR. Works with SSLT members to monitor overall progress in
implementing TPL’s safety and security action plan, and to ensure that resources are
coordinated effectively across TPL branches, divisions and locations.

Continually review incidents, identifying and reporting trends, and develop appropriate
interventions in conjunction with the Rules of Conduct Committee.

Support exclusion and appeals process, as member of Rules of Conduct Committee (under
direction of Director, BOCE).

Liaise with Service Development and Innovation (SDI) and BOCE Divisions to identify and
address any service gaps revealed through incident trend data.

Support SDI and BOCE in implementation of any services developed in response to incident
data and service gaps.

Work closely with the Manager, Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness on overall health and
safety matters, and on the development of TPL’s employee wellness strategy and action plan.

Liaise with public libraries, service providers and other institutions around emerging trauma
- informed best practices.

Work closely with the Manager, Public Safety, providing feedback on guard performance and
guard relationship with Library Safety Specialists

As a member of the Rules of Conduct Committee, work in partnership with HR Learning and
Development team and BOCE to lead the development and implementation of TPL’s safety and
security curriculum.

Member of Service Operations Management (SOM) Committee; participate in Area Managers
meetings as needed

Member of HR Senior Leadership Team (HR-SLT)

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Related post-secondary education, or equivalent education and experience.
Increasingly responsible levels of experience in social services, community support services,

employee assistance, mental health, addictions, or related areas.
Strong relationship-building skills, with experience in fostering constructive, positive

relationships with a diverse range of individuals and communities, including marginalized and
precariously housed individuals, and those experiencing mental health or addiction challenges.

Expertise and experience in de-escalation strategies and interventions.
Strong capability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, to create

relevant, impactful cultural change.

A deep understanding of issues relating to equity-deserving groups, intersectionality, and
accessibility, and a strong commitment, passion and dedication to enabling meaningful, positive
change.

Exceptional verbal and written communication capabilities in articulating clear, compelling
messages and in tackling complex or sensitive topics with a professional, direct, learning
approach.

Proven ability to lead teams, and to supervise and manage staff.
Experience in a public library environment is not required but would be considered an asset.

**SALARY**: $123,830.00 - 160,477.00 per annum (2023 Rate, Grade 8)
