**Kitchen Assistant for Happy Explorers Learning Academy in New Hamburg, Ontario**

Monday to Friday; 7:30am to 2:00pm

Happy Explorers Learning Academy is a licensed childcare facility that focuses on adventures in learning - in helping children see the exciting possibilities in the world around them as they grow and experience life in the small-town community of New Hamburg, Ontario.

We are currently looking for a Kitchen Assistant who can assist with daily meals. The Kitchen Assistant will collaborate closely with the assistant supervisor at Happy Explorers Learning Academy to provide a balanced menu aligned with Canada’s Food Guide. Applicants must have excellent organizational, planning, time management, work well within a team environment and have a love for children. It is important that applicants are available for flexible hours from Monday to Friday.

**Required Background**:

- High school or equivalent (required)
- Experience within a kitchen environment an asset, but not required
- Current negative Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen (within the last six months)
- Current immunization
- Food Handler’s Certification an asset, will provide training if required.
- Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism by providing strong customer service, ability to listen and respond appropriately to children and other team members

**Duties**:
As the Kitchen Assistant, duties include, but are not limited to:

- Daily preparation of morning and afternoon snack (ingredients to be provided by Happy Explorers)
- Daily portioning of lunches delivered by caterer
- Washing of dishes following each meal
- Maintenance of kitchen cleanliness in accordance with Food Handlers and Public Health standards
- Recording temperatures of prepared foods prior to serving
- Keeping Assistant Supervisor updated on menu
- Assist Assistant Supervisor in reviewing menu to ensure all snacks are age appropriate and in compliance with licensing
- Advise Assistant Supervisor of any food that requires purchasing
- Ensure all food and cold storage areas are at the appropriate temperature
- Report all accidents, injuries and illnesses to the Assistant Supervisor and record such incidents in the Daily Log Book
- Knowledgeable and aware of all health regulations to be followed within the kitchen when handling food

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $17.50-$19.00 per hour
