**The Opportunity**:
The Children’s Intensive Service(CIS) is a rehabilitative mental health inpatient setting for children aged 12 years and under whose needs cannot be managed on an outpatient basis. The service offers both day and 24/5 service, with treatment last approximately 4 months. Reporting to the Manager of CIS, the Masters prepared Social Worker will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, providing holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of children aged 6-12 years presenting with serious emotional and behavioural problems. Utilizing the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) model, CIS adopts an approach to intervention which is collaborative with the child and his/her family and is focused on developing adaptive living skills to cope with mental health problems. The Social Worker is involved in all aspects of the care continuum from pre-assessment through to discharge/follow-up, and will also provide individual, family therapy and evidence based group treatment, based on the CPS philosophy.

**Hours of Work**:
37.5 hours bi-weekly, Monday to Friday; day shifts. Some evening work may be required.

**Your Qualifications**:

- Masters Degree in Social Work required
- Currently licensed with, or eligible to be licensed with, the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW) required.
- Minimum two (2) years post masters clinical experience working in child and adolescent mental health services required.
- Minimum two (2) years demonstrated experience in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) model preferred.
- Valid Nova Scotia Drivers License, regular use of a reliable vehicle and appropriate insurance required.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders, particularly Disruptive Behaviour Disorders and common co-morbid disorders (i.e. Learning disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Mood disorders, etc.
- Demonstrated understanding of child development, attachment theory and trauma informed care.
- Demonstrated experience in individual/family therapy required.
- Demonstrated experience in group therapy is required.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience in team-building.
- Demonstrated experience in case management and community liaison.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated skills in organization and time management.
- Demonstrated understanding of the child welfare system
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
