**Reports to: Workshop Manager**
Science World is a BC-based charitable organization that engages the people of British Columbia in STEAM literacy. Our mission is to ignite wonder and empower dreams through science and nature.
Our people are our greatest asset. As part of our team, you will become part of a diverse community that acknowledges everyone’s unique talents and empowers people to do what is right for our visitors and each other. You will work in an environment where we believe in developing our employees and growing their strengths, while focusing on our values: Curious, Playful, Inclusive, Relevant and Collaborative.
**Position Description**:
Under the supervision of the Workshop Manager, and alongside a team of Workshop Technicians, this role supports exhibit installation and maintenance focused on audio/video (A/V) equipment and computer hardware/software. Additionally, general Workshop Technician tasks are a regular requirement for this role - including custom fabrication, exhibit optimization, and exhibit repairs. These duties ensure all galleries and exhibits are kept in a safe operating condition and built to withstand the ongoing rigors required of exceptional, interactive exhibitry.
The Audio Visual Workshop Technician role requires a strong background with audio/visual systems as well as computer hardware and software. Knowledge of both PC and Apple systems is essential, including installation and customization processes.

Additionally, this is coupled with an understanding of fabrication methods and materials for the purposes of installing and modifying/maintaining exhibit functionality. This role provides technical support to the Senior Designer, Exhibits in determining software and hardware implementation and building working prototypes to help create robust and engaging interactive exhibit experiences. The Audio Visual Workshop Technician will also perform related maintenance tasks and duties - including mechanical fixes, woodworking, and electrical repair. These processes will utilize a wide range of materials and equipment (e.g. acrylic, metal, wood, electronics, mechanical and electrical parts, etc.).
The position of the Audio Visual Workshop Technician will appeal to someone who loves to exercise their analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills to make things function better than they were. You will be looked to as one of the leaders in the Workshop, working closely with the Exhibit Design team to suggest and implement process improvements and team initiatives. Working within a highly creative and collaborative environment, regular input from our team of educators, designers, and visitor experience staff is key to keeping your exhibit projects and assigned gallery functioning at its best.
As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings.
