**General Description**:
The Mi’kmaw Child Development Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for **One (1) Maintenance
- Cleaner Personnel.** This position is offered as part-time hours Monday-Friday (evenings) based on need. The Maintenance
- Cleaner Personnel will be responsible for ensuring that all the property (Mi’kmaw Child Development Centre) are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner by performing minor maintenance and cleaning duties. Maintenance-cleaning duties may vary depending upon the location of work, age of building and use of the building.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Sweep and wet mop all floors and stairs
- Collaborate cleaning activities with other employees (janitor-staff)
- Manage solid waste management system (recycle, garbage, compost), ensure the property is clean and the waste management collection and disposal is in proper bags and hauled away.
- Organize, order and ensure that office equipment and other equipment which is no longer in use are disposed of properly and that all exits of the building remain free from debris
- Dust, clean and sanitize all counter tops, window ledges, benches and horizontal surfaces (window ledges), public waiting rooms, offices
- Disinfect and sanitize all hard surfaces especially high touch items such as all door handles and keypads, light switch plates, handles and faucets
- Clean glass surfaces
- Clean and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, seats and fixtures
- Spot clean marks, dirt build up off of walls and trim
- Ensure paper and soap dispensers are stalked up
- Strip and refinish wax floors
- Clean entrance areas of building, glass, doors and hardware
- Winter maintenance; salt, shovel snow, clear snow from entryways
- Keep cleaning supplies organized and clean (empty dirty buckets/ clean mop heads)
- Minor carpentry work (repairs when needed)
- Contract/ maintaining building repairs as needed
- Contracting/ maintain building electrical infrastructure
- Contracting/ maintaining junk removal from the building and all emergency exits
- Painting (walls, offices, doors)
- Light bulb changing, ensure that all burnt out lights are disposed of properly
- Maintain seasonal thermostat schedule
- Monitor janitorial supplies and order as needed
- Maintain janitor equipment and storage areas in a clean and organized fashion
- Check to ensure all emergency exits remain clean of debris

**Qualifications & Experience;**
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have at least 2 years cleaning experience and be capable of building, painting/ repairing and have at least 2 years’ experience in building maintenance.
- Must have a valid NS driver’s license & reliable vehicle for acquiring/ transporting materials
- Knowledge of Occupational health & Safety standards/ completion of WHIMS GHS training
- Able to work independently, self-motivated and as a part of a team
- Personal attributes: respectful, able to take direction as well as work independently
- Good written, verbal and listening skills
- Must be bondable, provide a vulnerable sector check & child abuse registry check upon hiring
