Under the direction of the Manger, Imaging Services, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment. Assumes responsibility for teaching new technical staff all procedures pertaining to the Division of Nuclear Medicine.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do

**PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:

- Prepares materials/chemicals for patient examinations/scans, ensuring quality control of equipment. Reports any malfunctions to the supervisor
- Explains test procedures to patients and provides care and support during nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring use of proper imaging techniques as outlined in procedure manual or as requested by the Nuclear Medicine Physician
- Produces a computer-generated image for interpretation by a physician.
- Documents patient exams in the patient care system, including any additional information regarding incomplete or technically unsatisfactory case.
- Regular technical duties are inclusive of the duties of Hot Lab, Bone Density, Scanning Room, On-call.
- Ensures that examination rooms are kept clean and orderly with adequate supplies available.
- Must wear TLD badges (finer and body) while working. The badges must be kept in a lead pot when Technologist not working. Perform thyroid bioassay within 5 days of handling radioactive iodine as per CNSC license.
- Decommission IDI therapy inpatient room
- The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept. /unit established procedures at all times. Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor. Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s),and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
- Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KGH policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with the KGH Commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations**.**

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Registered with CAMRT, OAMRT is required.
- Active registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario Nuclear Medicine is required.
- Working experience in Nuclear Medicine is an asset.
- Good communication skills, patience and consideration for people of all ages and backgrounds
- Expert level technical skills in applicable discipline
- Self-reliant, ability to function independently and interact effectively with others
- Diplomatic, tactful, open-minded, flexible, adaptable, react effectively to stressful situations
- Proven excellence in method development, research, problem solving and project management skills.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in method validation and regulatory requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance
- Proven teaching and coaching skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proven excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
