**ROLE OF THE GIS TECHNICIAN**

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services, the GIS Technician will design, develop, and manage the many sources of the County’s information and assets and is responsible for the administration, maintenance and management of the County’s general information systems including, but not limited to, Catalyst, QGIS, and Arc GIS.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Development and production of GIS mapping products including the design and implementation of online and hard-copy maps.

2. Perform map data and database query and analysis and create reports and thematic maps on the data with GIS.

3. Input, edit, and verify data to the GIS system; prepare and maintain a variety of base and specialty maps, records, and reports related to Municipal Government.

4. Compile spatial data sets for a variety of sources, including land information, civic addresses, infrastructure networks, census data, Global Position System (GPS) data.

6. On-going maintenance of GIS datasets.

7. Provide technical support and training for County staff and user groups for in-house geomatics software and assist other departments with GIS related duties and tasks.

8. Conduct research and investigation of new technologies and provide recommendations to the Director of Infrastructure on improvements to geomatics related business practices and procedures. Liaise with both internal and external information streams.

9. Ensure quality assurance on new or revised data conforms to the GIS standards.

10. Record, maintain, review, and analyze the transfer of data for asset information systems including facilitation of date capture methods.

11. Collect and maintain all asset data for a complete inventory with all key attributes, full descriptions, locations, and condition assessment.

12. Perform other duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**
- Completion of two (2) year Geographic Information System Diploma or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Four (4) years practical desktop support experience working with Microsoft-based network environment.
- Ability to interpret survey plans and engineered drawings.
- Working knowledge of GIS software and related databases.
- Knowledge and experience with integrating Asset Management.
- Ability to interpret, implement, and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to interact well with, and respond to inquiries from employees, Management, Council and Ratepayers.
- Experience in a local government environment is considered an asset.

**Salary**: $65,233.00-$76,313.00 per year
