**Job Description**:
This position is responsible for the technical competence, work direction, and scheduling for completion of large scale and complex laboratory and pilot plant research programs. The incumbent is responsible for client relationships/communications and meeting client requirements for successful project completion.

He/she ensures that work meets established quality standards and Company procedures. The incumbent is accountable for setting and controlling project budgets and issuing project billing invoices. The incumbent has responsibility for health and safety, environment, productivity, and quality priorities, ensuring that all of these issues are addressed and optimized.

Oversees all technical aspects of hydrometallurgical projects.
- Initiates new business contacts and sales opportunities.
- Project management, composes client reports, presents project results to clients, and writes and presents technical papers at an internationally acceptable level.
- Motivates and assists with planning and execution of R&D programs involving the development of new technologies.
- Spearheads the integration of new technologies into the mainstream of process flow sheet development for clients.
- Produces and gives presentations and technical courses on SGS Minerals.
- Mentors junior and senior Metallurgist/Engineers.
- Learns other SGS Minerals process technologies for cross-selling.
- Liaising with internal and external technical Consultants.
- Follows all Health, Safety and Environment policies and regulations at all times.
- Some off-site travel for projects and extended hours on/off-site will be required from time-to-time.
- Possible travel to other SGS metallurgical laboratory locations in Canada or overseas on either short term assignments or longer term assignments as part of a strategic initiative.
- May be assigned and coordinate special or _ad hoc _projects as needed.

**Qualifications**:
University degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Hydrometallurgy, Mining Engineering, Materials Engineering or in a related engineering discipline or equivalent.

Over 15 years of previous working experience in operations and process development or plant design in minerals related field.

Must have experience in operations supervision or project management coupled with an excellent ability to interact with both operators and managers.
- 8 years of experience leading technical teams as it relates to project management.
- 15 years of previous working experience in a minerals related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 10 years of experience in hydrometallurgy or gold extraction, including flowsheet development, bench scale test work and pilot plant programs.
- Must have the flexibility to fill multiple roles and meet the requirements of the organization as necessary.
- Must have a demonstrated ability at successfully mentoring others.
- Must be a problem solver, and have a positive, "anything that it takes" attitude.
- Strong leadership and management skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage people.
- Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- A sense of diplomacy and networking skills are essential to build relationships with external clients as well as key internal personnel.
- Must be creative, innovative and client-focused.
- Must use skilled judgement in identifying sales opportunities, closing business and resolving customer related issues.
- Excellent customer service, client support, and business service consulting skills.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be proficient in using various types of computer software (ex. Word, Excel, etc.).
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Ability to work well with others and independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well under pressure.
- Previous experience in a consulting function or plant operation would be an asset.
- Experience with financial/budget responsibilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to write complex technical reports.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task.
- Extended hours may be required from time to time.
- Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
