Reporting to the Lead, Reclamation Vegetation, the Technician, Vegetation is responsible for all vegetation management with a focus in invasive plants for the five coal mines and Teck owned lands in the Elk Valley. This position is critical in the support of Teck’s industry-leading biodiversity program and for compliance with regulatory conditions relating to reclamation and biodiversity management.

**Responsibilities**:

- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Support the planning and execution of annual invasive revegetation management, revegetation, monitoring, plant propagation and seed collection
- Assist with advancing the operational reclamation program, in terms of land forming and revegetation
- Innovate and develop weed control approaches to physical, chemical and biological control through structured research and development programs
- Support in-house field monitoring and effectiveness monitoring
- Communicate and engage with site Safety, Environment, and Operations teams for weed management projects
- Lead contractors to ensure work is conducted safely and in accordance with the project scope including Environmental and Safety Protection Work Plans
- Identify risks, issues and challenges, evaluate options and implement solutions
- Develop project scopes and implementation plans
- Assist with project budgets to support the completion of objectives, this includes daily and weekly cost tracking
- Track progress and update project maps in GIS
- Work occasional evenings and weekends during the field season, depending on workload
- General work breakdown is 50% in office and 50% field work; field work is required 100% during the growing season

**Qualifications**:

- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture, or Natural Resource field), or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum two years experience in an environmental resource management area
- Proficient with environmental data management software (Arc GIS, EQuis) and with Microsoft Office Suite®
- Familiar with provincial and federal regulations pertaining to the environment and knowledgable of Ecosystem Classification and Management in BC
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to safely operate different equipment
- Ability to work efficiently with nominal supervision and work independently in outdoor remote locations
- Pesticide Applicators License would be an asset
