Key Areas of Responsibility
The Technical Specialist - Mechanical is accountable to the AJISS Engineering Services Lead and is required to:
- Support the AOPS & JSS Program Engineers.
- Support the Halifax Waterfront team; and
- Support the LCMM & Engineering section.
This will be achieved by:
- Providing support to various internal stakeholders by conducting a range of technical investigations (both desktop and board);
- Liaising with OEMs, service providers and ship operators to optimize existing maintenance schedules.
- Contribute to engineering change proposals and developing solutions to technical problems.
- Reviewing technical documentation and proposing improvement.
- Overseeing technical service activities for designated vessels and/or systems, to ensure materiel readiness objectives f the Platforms are being achieved.
- Developing a good working relationship within Our Clients and the customer's organization to ensure coordination and resolution of issues.
- Investigating technical problems, alternative material support, obsolescence issues.
- Preparing reports such as pre and post refit condition assessments, technical investigations, post maintenance ITP, OP close-outs, installation set-to-work and Physical Condition Audits; and
- Assisting in troubleshooting with Ship Staff, Our Clients and Service Providers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possess a minimum 3- year technical program diploma in a marine technical field offered by a recognized technical
- institute or certified as a technologist by a recognized provincial, state, or federal (national) licensing body in a relevant or certified to the QL-6B level of military technical training.
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated technical professional work experience in the marine sector within the last 10 years.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Fluent in English.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of marine systems.
- Previous experience working within the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.
- Familiar with certification requirements including but not limited to Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is an asset.
