At ROCK, we believe in the value of peer support in the delivery of our services and in the benefit of peer support, due to its focus on client-centered care, strength-based, and recovery-oriented approaches that lead to improved outcomes for our clients and families.

Reporting to the Manager of Early Years, the Peer Support Provider works collaboratively with the team at ROCK to support those who are in a caregiving role to a child or youth who is experiencing mental health challenges. With a focus on children in the 0-12 age range, the Peer Support Provider will walk alongside a caregiver in their journey to support their children. Our practices incorporate evidence
- informed and leading practices in the field. Core Skills Peer Support training and WRAP certification will be provided to ensure the Peer Support Provider has the formalized skills to implement the role.

Please note that this is a **permanent, full-time position, working 35 hours weekly.**

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support and contribute involvement to the Family Engagement Advisory Council. Co-facilitating over meetings and flowing communication from the council to ROCK service tables.
- Assist families navigating the service system(s) by walking alongside them through community outreach, EarlyON, parent/ caregiver education, and virtual supports.
- Participate in the Early Years Community of Practice monthly meetings.
- Assist in the expansion of a family’s available supports, including formal, informal, and natural support networks.
- Provide peer support consultation for caregivers seeking services at ROCK who indicate their interest in knowing more about the benefits of peer support.
- Provide peer support single sessions as needed through brief service referrals.
- Facilitate peer-led drop-in groups and programs, on-site or in the the community, to support early years parents and caregivers.
- Support/coordinate psycho-educational workshops in collaboration with ROCK staff and/or community partners.
- Facilitate Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups for caregivers.
- Collaborate with ROCK staff to co-facilitate groups/workshops.
- Support the development of opportunities for families to share their experience and inform/influence service design within ROCK (evaluation, formal peer advisory, focus groups).
- Participate as part of a family-centered, multidisciplinary team and support the ongoing assessment of strengths and needs of the client.
- Participate, and co-facilitate as needed, the Peer Community of Practice monthly meetings.
- Participate in the ongoing work of client/caregiver advisory to support accreditation standards.
- Adhere to documentation requirements, including ROCK’s electronic client information system.
- Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
- Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policy and procedure documents.
- Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

**Education**:

- A high school diploma at minimum.
- Peer Support Core Skills Training is an asset.
- WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) training is an asset.

**Experience**:

- Applicants must have lived experience as the primary caregiver of a child or youth with emotional or behavioural challenges and be a biological, adoptive, kin parent or non-related family member of a child with emotional or behavioural challenges, who has had systems experience with their child in a child serving system (i.e. mental health, child welfare or youth justice).
- Knowledge of local community resources.
- Experience in group facilitation and public speaking is an asset.

**Skills**:

- Demonstrate sensitivity and commitment to family-centered service and utilize evidence
- informed, leading practice in peer support.
- Willingness to lead and facilitate family centred groups from the peer support lens.
- Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Additional Requirements:

- Access to reliable transportation.
- A current (within three months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
- Proficient in the use of technology and in working from a virtual environment, as required of the position. MAC OS operating system experience preferred.
