**Job Summary**

As a Spiritual Care Practitioner reporting to the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion your role will be to lead and enhance the spiritual care program at Southlake. You will provide multi-faith, person-centered spiritual and religious care that respects the diverse cultures and traditions of our patients, families, staff and physicians.

**Skills & Abilities**
- Three to five (3-5) years recent related experience.
- Demonstrated competency in spiritual care to the sick and to persons of diverse religious, educational and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to relate theology and behavioral science to the practice of spiritual care.
- Previous clinical experience in a fast-paced acute care hospital
- Strong cultural competence and the ability to navigate sensitive conversations and situations with respect and sensitivity
- Knowledge of various models of spiritual care and their appropriateness to different practice contexts
- Demonstrated spiritual maturity and integrity coupled with a high degree of sensitivity, compassion, gentleness, caring, humility and approachability.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and crisis intervention techniques.
- Excellent counseling/clinical skills and compliance with confidentiality requirements
- Must be able to work collaboratively with inter-professional teams; and capable of working independently.
- Excellent communication (verbal/written English), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Knowledge of applicable, legislative, Southlake and/or departmental policies.

**Qualifications**
- Master of Divinity, Pastoral Studies, Theology or equivalent
- Successful completion of Clinical Psycho-Spiritual Education (CPE) Advanced Units preferred Specialist Certification (or Certification in process) preferred.
- Employees must maintain membership with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC), or one of its partner Spiritual Care professional organizations.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Leads and enhance the spiritual care program at Southlake, ensuring it aligns with the organization’s values and goals.
- Fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment, promoting open dialogue and understanding of various spiritual and religious practices.
- Provides care that is respectful of religious, spiritual and cultural diversity by supporting ethical discussion and difficult decision making by patients, their families and staff.
- Initiates regular spiritual care visits with patients and responds to requests or referrals made by patients, family or staff and leaders of faith communities
- Collaborates with community clergy and spiritual care partners (where appropriate) and makes referrals and helpful connections with the patient's/family's community support
- Actively engages with patients, their families and staff in developing an understanding of the relationship between spiritual, religious, physical, emotional, psychological and mental well-being especially those experiencing spiritual and emotional distress.
- Enables effective team collaboration and functions as a full participant on a variety of clinical teams.
- Provides appropriate opportunities for prayer, sacraments, and other spiritual, religious or cultural rituals.
- Demonstrates best practices in group facilitation, end-of-life care, grief and bereavement support.
