GROWMARK Intern - Great Lakes Grain - Guelph, ON

**PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT**:

- The Great Lakes Grain Intern is responsible for delivering an exceptional customer experience at every interaction.
- Executing against assigned projects and activities.
- Gain an understanding of the Great Lakes Grain operations.
- Learn about market information and cash grain bids to patrons aligned to their marketing plans.
- Provides ongoing information and feedback to General Manager and Team members for project updates, observations, and recommendations based on assigned work.
- Works to establish company as the first choice in value-added grain marketing.
- Maintain and update project information and records on a daily basis.
- Supports the marketing and sales efforts of the company through information on prospects, problems, and opportunities.
- Performs various administrative functions, relating to daily, monthly, and year-end.
- Checklists and assist in balancing monthly inventories.

**SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP**

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**
- Drives company vehicle to designation customer crop field locations.
- Working with, but not limited to, merchandising, origination, sustainability, administration, operations.
- Attends scheduled technical training sessions and meetings.
- Assists with additional agricultural retail operational duties as time allows.

**OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS**

- Responsible for operating and maintaining the assigned vehicle according to company standards, adheres to the uniform policy and maintains the appropriate professional image.

**REQUIREMENTS**
Education and Experience
- Normally requires an individual currently enrolled in an agriculture-related college or university program, who possesses a basic understanding of production agriculture. Must be 18 years of age and also possess a valid driver’s license; a driving abstract that represents a history of safe operation, as well as the ability to maintain insurability.
- Functional Competencies
- Demonstrates safe driving techniques, with ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently in adverse road, weather, and traffic conditions; demonstrated time management such as determining cost efficient routes.
- Demonstrates basic math skills, such as the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure and understanding of basic computer skills as they relate to the position.
- Proven ability to work independently, and in a team-oriented environment, and achieve results through others.

- Demonstrated GROWMARK core competencies including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision-making, and skill development.
- Other Requirements
- May be required to work extended hours, particularly during peak seasons and occasionally exposed or required to work in extreme conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.). Must be able to walk crop fields and conduct visual inspections of crops.
- Must have or be able to obtain various licenses, permits and certificates, as required, eg: forklift certification, TDG as well as must have and maintain a valid class G driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
- Must be able to be trained in GROWMARK’s Workplace Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures, including Accident Reporting, Emergency Response Plan, Fire Safety, General Safety Rules, Health & Safety Rights, Health & Safety Roles and Responsibilities, Safe Manual Lifting, Slips Trips and Falls, and WHMIS.

Mental Effort
- The incumbent works within established policies and work procedures. Mental and visual concentration required is normally moderate in intensity when following safety rules and safe operating procedures to insure proper techniques are performed in the manner as which is described and/or set by the Manager. Unusual problems are referred to the Branch Manager or Supervisor.
