**The Flagman is responsible for controlling and directing work groups on active railway property. Using specific railway operating rules, instructions and techniques, this position ensures that contractors clear the working zone prior to the approach of a train minimizing any delays to scheduled railway operations and ensuring the safety of all team members.**

**Responsibilities**
- Embrace and endorse our safety culture and adhering to industry and company policies and procedures.
- Conducts and participates in daily job briefings in order that all contractors understand site specific instructions prior to commencing tasks.
- Review the work site on a minimum daily basis and consults with Supervisor and or contractor’s representative to understand work being conducted, and any potential hazards.
- Set up, relocate and dismantle railway specific signals (flags) at designated locations.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with the work group being protected, other flagmen and Rail Traffic Controllers using established procedures and radio equipment to ensure the understanding of instructions, track protection limits, work site hazards and other specific site conditions.
- Responsibly operates company vehicles and ensures all daily maintenance and inspections of the units are completed.
- Performs administrative duties related to proper documentation as per J&S Bridge Construction Ltd. & client requirements.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the railway industry.
- Perform general labour with crew as required.

**Job Qualifications**
- Is, or has qualified to work as a protecting flagman on CN Rail in either OCS or CTC territories.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years construction experience on railway and/or maintenance environments including experience with tie changes; constructing, maintaining or repairing track; cutting, drilling or gauging rail; constructing turnouts, distressing rail; rail changes; and other related activities.
- Previous or current Track Inspection Guidelines certification
- Previous or current Canadian Railway Operating Rules
- Ability to read and understand specific documents including schedules, standard railway plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations and safety precautions of the work being performed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of computers, tablets etc.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license

**Physical Requirements**:

- Works outdoors and able to be exposed to all weather conditions including extreme hot and cold temperatures
- Frequently stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, lift, bend on uneven terrain
- Exposure to loud noise
- Exposure to live track/trains and high voltage.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Travel is required

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
- 12 hour shift
- 8 hour shift

Supplemental pay types:

- Overtime pay
