Job Title: Financial Controller
Location: Delta, BC (Anacis Island)
Summary:
The Financial Controller is responsible for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Financial Reporting, External Audit, and Tax for 2 Canadian locations - Golden West Baking (Delta, BC) and Les Boulangeries Rene (Montreal). The position supervises three staff, and reports directly to the Finance Director, Canada and works collaboratively with the Operations Controller and with various staff in the Corporate Head Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- General Accounting: responsible for General Ledger, Payroll, A/P, A/R, Credit, Canadian month-end close process, and related ad hoc analysis & reporting
- Internal Financial Reporting: lead for internal/corporate management & financial reporting, including balance sheet, cash flow, intercompany reporting, and Account Reconciliations
- External Financial Reporting: lead for external audit, various tax reporting, tax audits, all tax compliance
- Team Management: leads a diverse multi-geographical team supporting the 3 business units, leads staff development, goals, objectives, etc
- Selected involvement in Budgets and Forecasting
- Compliance - support rollout of any corporate procedures, requirements, key internal controls, regulatory/tax requirements, etc
- Business partnering - become a key business partner to the various internal & external customers
- Maintain a personal awareness of Business unit cost development and reporting practices and opportunities.
- Support the Finance Director & Operations Controller to streamline financial accounting processes
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications:
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Accounting. CPA-CA\CGA\CMA designation preferred.
**Experience**:
- Seven to ten years of business related accounting experience preferred, at least 5 of which have been in a key management role
- Experience in managing an external audit & financial reporting requirements, as well as tax compliance issues
- Experience in managing/supervising a team
Requirement:
- Travel to Canadian Business Units as required. (1-3 trips annually)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective self-direction, self-motivated, and looks for process improvements
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, for both internal & external business partners & customers
- Strong computer skills, including data integration in multi-platform environments. Must be very competent in Excel.
- Large scale ERP system experience - SAP preferred
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Ability to understand complex financial and accounting concepts, and explain in simple language
- Very hands on and detail oriented
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of associates and ranging from entry level to executive level positions, from highly technical to non-technical personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises two Accounting Assistants, and one Senior Accounting Technician.
