**Position**: Settlement Practitioner

**Location**: Edmonton, Alberta

**Term**: Full-time (37.5 hrs per week)

**Compensation**:$27 - $29/Hour

Action for Healthy Communities Society of Alberta (AHC) is a non-profit charitable organization working in Edmonton since 1995 to strengthen community capacity and build healthier and stronger communities. AHC facilitates community development supports and engages equity-deserving individuals and groups using lenses of intersectionality to identify and address barriers. Through strategies aimed at building capacities of individuals, families and communities, AHC works to improve social determinants of health, reduce poverty and vulnerability factors, and respond to social issues that impact safety and well-being.

**Position Summary**

The Settlement Practitioner will play a vital role in helping newcomers adjust and integrate into Canadian society. In this role, you'll be responsible for planning and delivering client-centered settlement support to newcomers coming from diverse areas of the world, tailored services designed to support newcomers in their successful integration into the Canadian society.

AHC Settlement Practitioners supports the settlement and integration of newcomers to Canada through comprehensive needs assessment, resource provision, and supportive referrals.

**Key Responsibilities**
- **Assessment of Needs and Settlement Planning**: Conducts comprehensive settlement needs assessments, and guides clients in building their settlement plan focused on their goals, identified needs and barriers, and clear defined steps to guide clients to achieve their settlement goals.
- **Provision of Client-centered Supports**:
Ø Determines appropriate supports based on clients’ abilities and needs, and delivers informative and skills enhancement orientation, guidance and supportive counselling to empower clients to navigate settlement needs including among others, housing, health, employment, English language learning, income, banking, education/training, family dynamics and children & youth development and other essential life domains.

Ø Ensures clients receive appropriate case coordination supports, and conducts adequate referrals and follow up levels with clients, internal AHC programs and other community service providers to empower clients to navigate broader Canadian systems and within their local communities. Advocates for newcomers and facilitates clients’ access to various service providers, ensuring maintenance of adequate service connections on both sides.

Ø Assists in the planning, delivery and reporting of group services at AHC and through partners.

Ø Maintains current knowledge of mandatory standards of care, and ensures diligent compliance on agency’s internal policies, procedures and protocols, and shares relevant information with clients to maintain mutually respectful and healthy engagements.

Ø Proactively, keeping up-to-date on best practices in effective provision of client-centered newcomer supports.
- **Community Connections and Community development Supports**:
Ø Maintains current knowledge and active inventory of community resources, and supports newcomers to improve connections to local communities, networks, and community service providers to empower newcomers to navigate life in Canada.

Ø Assists the organizations AHC community connections engagements such as resource and job fairs, networking events for newcomers and others.

Ø Assists in facilitating capacity building for community leaders engaged in AHC’s community development strategies, supporting community initiatives for newcomers’ integration.
- **Outreach Engagement**: Conducts outreach to LINC programs, public libraries and local community centres/associations, to expand community-based newcomer supports and create strong support networks for newcomers.
- **Data Maintenance & Reporting. Monitoring/Evaluation of Services**: Conducts regular clients service data entries to maintain updated ongoing records. Assists the facilitation of ongoing monitoring and evaluation, data collection and analysis to measure progress, collection of client testimonials/success stories. Assists in ensuring targets are met and reports produced timely.

**Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies**:

- 3+ years of experience planning and delivering diverse informative and skills enhancement supports for newcomers to Canada.
