Social Service Worker, Indigenous Studies or other closely related field or a combination of education and experience with a focus on mental health, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities as determined by the employer;
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in providing mental health supports
- Experience providing support services in a community organization is desirable and/or with Indigenous peoples;
- Experience in working from a youth centered approach regarding engagement, problem solving and community outreach;
- Awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma;
- Ability to deliver programming from a cultural context to promote growth as the foundation for health and healing;
- Clear understanding of various treatment options, prescribed/traditional medicines, and cultural practices encompassing a balanced lifestyle;
- Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services;
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in the areas of negotiation, facilitation, mediation, and problem solving;
- Demonstrated cultural competency including awareness, knowledge and empathy;
- Skill in establishing trusting relationships;
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention training;
- Ability to use initiative and work independently;
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment and to collaborate within a group setting and with community partners;
- statistical and narrative reporting;
- Posses a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record;
- Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) CPIC as a condition of the employment offer

HRIC is a highly flexible organization offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the Christmas holiday week, and health benefits. HRIC health benefits are offered to full time permanent employees, employees will be able to enroll upon the successful completion of their (3) three-month probationary period.
