Job Title: Stewardship Ambassador
Wage: $25 - $30/hour depending on experience
Hours: 21-28 hrs/week
Job Overview:
As a non-profit, charitable organization, CLSS is committed to safeguarding the health of Christina Lake and its surrounding ecosystems through community education and local environmental monitoring. We are seeking a passionate individual who will work closely with our Board of Directors, embodying our mission while providing expert guidance for the various initiatives of CLSS.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serve as the public face of CLSS during community events and outreach sessions, providing expertise on local flora, fauna, and environmental concerns.
- Facilitate popular CLSS run community events including Lake Clean-Up Day, the Christina Lake Watershed Management Plan Annual Review and the CLSS Annual General Meeting.
- Coordinate volunteer efforts regarding kokanee enumerations, garden maintenance and various other activities.
- Manage and curate the Interpretive Gallery, showcasing educational materials on topics such as WildSafe BC, local plant and wildlife species, species at risk, and aquatic invasive species.
- Foster and maintain long-term community partnerships with key stakeholders, facilitating collaboration with organizations such as the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, Boundary Invasive Species Society, the Conservation Officer Service, and many more.
- Implement goals outlined in the Christina Lake Watershed Management Plan, driving initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and sustainability.
- Conduct environmental monitoring activities including invasive mussel sampling, water quality testing, and kokanee enumerating.
- Process data entry and reporting for environmental monitoring programs through online reporting portals as well as Excel files.
- Provide training for the Summer Stewardship Assistant, and assist with numerous community outreach sessions, Youth Programs, and the preparation of Resort Packages.
- Work closely with the Stewardship Manager to collaborate on the various programs, projects and events facilitated by CLSS.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in environmental science, biology, or a related discipline.
- Experience working in Environmental Sciences or a similar field.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate community events and projects effectively.
- Comfortable presenting in front of large crowds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Flexibility to assist with office maintenance and organizational tasks.
