Swim Coach

The Athabasca Rapids Swim Team Association is looking to expand its coaching personnel for the 2023/24 season and beyond. We offer both non-competitive and competitive opportunities to youth who range between the ages of 9 and 18.

Duties
- Provide leadership, instruction, and positive motivation for swimmers during training.
- Deliver age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development and drills.
- Cultivate healthy swimmer relationships and create a collaborative, respectful and safe team environment.
- Obtain and maintain certification for the assigned role.
- Follow club policies and procedures and ensure all participants do as well.
- Develop and implement the team training program.
- Ideally, you have a passion for swimming, and experience working with youth with a focus in building their swimming skills.

Qualifications:

- Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Be a role model who encourages and inspires youth to be their best in and out of the pool.
- Experience in a competitive swimming environment (preferred)
- Able to provide a clean criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check
- Ability to get yourself to local practices and out of town weekend meets (reliable transportation)
- Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and regulations as outlined by Swim Alberta.
- Have, or be willing to obtain, the necessary coaching certifications to satisfy Swim Alberta regulations.

This is a Part-time position with 2-3 sessions (60-90 minutes) a week before or after school between the months of October and March (April to June depending on programming). The club attends 3-6 weekend swim meets each year that the assistant and/or head coach attend, as needed. You will be expected to attend most virtual board meetings (4-6/ year)

Wage - $15-30 / hour commensurate with coaching qualifications and experience

The Athabasca Rapids Swim Team Association (ARSTA) is a not-for-profit organization run by a board consisting of parents of swimmers. The club is based at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex Aquatics Centre that was opened in 2019, which features a modern 25 metre pool. We are a Swim Alberta and Swimming Canada Affiliated organization.
