Role Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced In-House Counsel to join our legal team in Montreal. As our In-House Counsel, you will be instrumental in protecting and managing our intellectual property rights, including licensing, copyright, and trademark matters. Working closely with artists, producers, and internal stakeholders, you will ensure legal compliance and safeguard our interests in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide legal advice and guidance on licensing agreements, including music distribution, synchronization, and performance rights.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to intellectual property, including recording agreements, publishing agreements, and licensing agreements.
- Manage copyright registration and enforcement, including addressing infringement issues and overseeing licensing opportunities.
- Conduct trademark searches and registrations in consultation with outside trademark agents, ensuring protection of our brand assets
- Provide strategic counsel on the business implications of legal matters, including entry into new business lines and territories, non-print/new media publishing formats, and strategic alliances.
- Monitor and advise on major shifts in legal and business trends with potential impact on how the company manages its intellectual property and other assets.
- Advise royalty accounting and finance teams on royalty provisions, financial obligations, and entitlements.

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Quebec bar and in good standing.
- 2-5 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on entertainment, intellectual property, and licensing.
- Strong knowledge of copyright, trademark, and contract law.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to provide strategic counsel and support on various legal and business matters.
- Experience advising on content creation, distribution, and marketing in the entertainment industry.
- Familiarity with royalty accounting, finance, and music industry agreements.
- Proven track record of negotiating and structuring complex entertainment-related agreements.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with industry contacts and stakeholders.
