**Global Banking and Markets**
Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.
**Purpose**
Directing assigned operations ensuring a high level of operational/cost efficiency, management control and customer service and ensuring significant risk, inherent in assigned operating units is identified, analyzed, understood and controlled. Maintain key controls at acceptable levels.
**Major Accountabilities**:
**Working with GWO Senior Management**:
- Develop a detailed understanding of GBM’s business plans/priorities and assess existing processes, systems, controls, and resources in relation to what will be required to effectively support the GBM business priorities and revenue objectives.
- Where material gaps in capabilities versus requirements exist, the incumbent will either directly or indirectly drive Settlements efforts to resolve same.
- Provide specialized insight and/or guidance to GBM in regard to how operational processing requirements can best be met
- ** Ensure a high degree of operational efficiency, processing accuracy, and conformity to regulations by**:
- Developing, negotiating and executing business objectives to improve operational efficiency or customer
- Identifying and implementing opportunities for improvements in productivity, control, cost effectiveness, and user/customer relations
- Developing/maintaining an effective, economical organization structure
- Adhering to an effective Management Control Program and escalation matrix.
- Managing resolution of operational problems ensuring appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence.
- Staying abreast of industry and/or internal initiatives and changes in order to forecast the impact upon assigned units
- Development and execution of strategies, communications and implementation of change
- Consulting on daily issues/changes in retail and trading products as they impact Settlements
- Understand products and product offerings at Scotiabank
- Understand securities markets, securities types and industry standards for custody, clearing and settlement
- Reviewing and maintaining all reconciliations which contribute to overall operational control of settlements and clearing
- Fails Reporting to internal and external clients. Regulatory reporting as required in daily production or on an ad-hoc basis
- Liaison with Middle office, Contracts and Reconciliations as required
- Provide MIS and reporting on the daily activities of the settlement groups
- Maintain central contact centre for escalated or unique inquires that come from clients
**Ensure service levels meet customer needs in a manner consistent with Scotia Service Standards by**:
- Ensuring all client transactions are processed and cleared in a timely and accurate manner
- Responding promptly and professionally to inquiries from customers, business lines supported and other units within GWO
- Ensuring that any activity undertaken by the unit in support of the various business lines that could have adverse customer impact is promptly identified and appropriate senior management / business lines are notified accordingly
**Qualifications**
- Expert knowledge of Settlements processes, systems, and controls in multiple geographic locations
- Knowledge of policies and procedures in other areas of the Bank
- Ability to effectively delegate
- Quick reactions in order to respond to situations requiring Senior Management involvement/decisions
- Adaptability to constant changes, tight deadline, limited guidance and ambiguous scenarios occurring within Settlements and an ability to effectively create and manage change
- Knowledge of Project Management methodologies both waterfall
