Established in 1836 in Quebec, Canada, Bishop’s College School (BCS)
is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate
Diploma Programme and certificates. With a campus bordered by
farmland and rolling hills on one side and by the city of Sherbrooke

The Position
Reporting to the Director of Student Life, BCS is eagerly seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and
motivating individual to fulfill the role of our School Counselor. As a pivotal member of our team, the
counselor plays a vital role in nurturing students' mental health and overall well-being, addressing
their personal, social, and educational requirements. Through close collaboration with our
established team, the counselor spearheads a proactive and empowering school counseling
initiative, leveraging strengths and preventive measures. This role fosters a seamless partnership
with academic and administrative staff, ensuring holistic support for every student's journey.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Individual and Group Counseling: The counselor offers individual and small group
counseling sessions tailored to address students' developmental and preventive social and
emotional needs. By providing a safe and supportive environment, they assist students in
navigating various challenges and promoting resilience.

2. Program Planning: Collaboration with school staff is integral as the counselor contributes to
the development and execution of the school counseling program. This involves designing
strategies and interventions to support students' academic, social, and emotional growth
effectively.

3. School Life Activities: Actively engaging in school life, the counselor participates in
extracurricular programs. By being present in these activities, they establish rapport with
students outside of formal counseling sessions and contribute to creating a nurturing and
inclusive school community.

4. Other School Duties: Beyond counseling-related tasks, the counselor undertakes additional
responsibilities as assigned by the school administration. This could encompass various roles
that contribute to the smooth functioning of the school environment, including but not

development activities. This commitment ensures they continuously enhance their
knowledge and skills, ultimately benefiting the students they serve. The Counselor adheres
to the ethical standards of their counseling profession.

6. Availability for Emergencies: Being on-call for emergencies underscores the counselor’s
dedication to student well-being, even outside regular school hours. Whether it's evenings,
nights, or weekends, they stand ready to provide support and assistance during critical
situations, ensuring students have access to necessary resources and care when needed
most.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience- Master's degree in social work, psychology, or counseling
- Membership (or eligibility for registration) with the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes
- conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ) or accredited association- Preferred minimum of five years of clinical counseling experience
- Proficiency in written and oral communication in both French and English
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience counseling students with anxiety, depression, unique learning styles, and other
- individual needs- Excellent animation, communication, and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration to establish trust
