This is a **permanent full-time role** at the County, with an hourly compensation range of **$37.208 - $43.072**.

**Position Summary**:
The Chief Operator in Charge will oversee and/or participate in work being undertaken to ensure the operation and maintenance of the water distribution, wastewater collection and storm water collection systems. This position involves providing work direction to County water & wastewater operators and contractors as it relates to County operated facilities and systems.
**Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills**:
**Education**:
- Community College Diploma / Degree relative to area of responsibility (Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Environmental/Chemical Technology or other similar program).
**Experience**:
- Over five years current related experience and orientation, training & adjustment on the job
Or equivalent to that combination
Must hold current MECP certification for Class III water distribution, Class II waste water collection
**Knowledge/Skills**:
- Proven working knowledge of water distribution, collection and treatment
- Good working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Proven planning and coordination skills as the incumbent will oversee and direct individuals while actually participating in the course of the work
- Good communication (both oral and written) skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to problem-solve
- A current Province of Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's Licence.
- Must be physically able to do the work
- Technology Aptitude
- Demonstrated intermediate computer skills to perform essential tasks on various technological devices and programs while adhering to cybersecurity and an awareness of best practices.
- Beginners’ knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

**Responsibilities**:
The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
**People**:
- Liaise with MECP inspectors, developers, other County departments/divisions, consultants and contractors for the operation, installation, inspection and maintenance requirements related to all facets of the County’s Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Storm water collection Systems
- Direct, plan, prioritize, oversee and participate in inspection, construction, operation and maintenance activities for the water distribution, wastewater collection and storm water collection systems.
**Functional**:
- Repair water and sewer main breaks, conducting water meter installation and repairs, unplugging sewer blockages, locates for all W&WW infrastructure, system leak detection, unidirectional flushing and specialized programs, etc.
- Respond to and / or direct service calls to deal with problems / issues such as, but not limited to, sewage back ups, water leaks (meter and service), dirty water, etc.
- Complete required documentation and reports (hand-written and/or computerized) including but not limited to weekly reports, sewage back-up
