The Primary Care Paramedic Teaching Assistant is expected to help with the general supervision and management of students. You will work under the direction of the classroom instructors and be expected to assist with the skills education and practice as outlined in the Course Lesson Plans for Patient Care Skills. The teaching assistant will be expected to promote and pursue high standards of teaching and learning while adhering to all applicable standards, regulations, policies and procedures.

**Responsibilities**:

- Prepare classroom activities that are consistent with lesson plans provided by the skills instructor
- Have a sound knowledge of the course in which instruction is being given;
- Provide constructive feedback to the PCP Program Coordinator on course and program improvements to be later evaluated by the PCP Advisory Committee for possible implementation
- Organize and effectively use classroom time;
- Use the appropriate level and form of language so as to effectively communicate with the student;
- Use instruction techniques/methods that recognize and take into account needs and learning capacities of students;
- Be able to modify techniques during instruction in response to the needs of the students;
- Assist students in developing efficient learning skills and work habits;
- Ensure all course objectives are met as outlined in the course lesson plans;
- Manage equipment maintenance and stocks in liaison with the Program Coordinator of the Paramedic Program
- Maintain, in the classroom, an appropriate atmosphere which is conducive to learning;
- Regularly monitor student progress and bring concerns forward to the Skills Lead or PCP Program Coordinator
- Assist with the maintain of accurate academic records and provide to the Program Coordinator for final mark allocation
- Identify academic weaknesses in students and provide recommendation to the Skills Lead or PCP Program Coordinator
- Complete Action Plans for each student absence and Student Progress Reports for any attendance or academic issues when directed by the Skills Lead
- Refer continuing academic issues to the Skills Lead or Program Coordinator on a timely basis to ensure the student receives all necessary support for success
- Keep accurate and complete records of student performance;
- Prepare practice scenarios in accordance with guidelines established in the lesson plans ensuring that course objectives are appropriately covered. Utilize the provided Skills Stations sheets for assessment of Skills Stations test results
- Forward all documentation to the Program Coordinator for allocation of marks
- Communicate on an appropriate basis with students, co‑workers, the Campus Director, the President of CTS Canadian Career College Inc. or designate, and community members;
- Communicate clearly and precisely;
- Respond promptly to inquiries from the Campus Director, Program Coordinator, President or designate when required;
- Use discretion and consideration in speaking of the campus, CTS Canadian Career College Inc., co‑workers, and the students, both on campus and off;
- Use appropriate channels in problem solving;
- Support, and contribute to, the development of the campus and CTS Canadian Career College Inc.
- Ensure that students, through their studies, are prepared for the placement and will, therefore have a meaningful experience;
- In the classroom, draw upon student placement experiences to reinforce instruction and help to develop students’ coping strategies
- Participate in student graduations and functions
- Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position location: North Bay, Ontario
- Work environment: Office and Classroom environment
- Hours of work: Up to 20 hours per week
- Schedule of work: Monday to Friday, operating on a flex schedule but typically in the evening from 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm
