**THE OPPORTUNITY**:
Slegg Building Materials, a Division of GMS Canada, is currently seeking a Full Time Financial Controller to report to the CFO and work out of our Sidney office overseeing the accounting department in Victoria, BC.

**THE RESPONSIBILITIES**:
(Include but are not limited to the following)

General
- Management and ownership of the division’s accounting function
- Act as an ambassador of the company with all stakeholders
- Maintain an emphasis on a safety culture, customer service, and efficiency as top priorities
- Hybrid Work from Home model in place to be discussed

Specific
- Complete Trial Balance ownership and reconciliation
- Monthly Financial Statement Analysis and management presentation
- Timely and accurate production of month-end, quarter-end and year-end entries, analysis, and reconciliation
- Design, implement and maintain financial controls / Sox control environment
- Provide technical accounting guidance and support to ensure compliance of internal accounting policies and procedures in accordance to business requirements, industry standards, and federal, provincial BC) regulations
- Liaise/supervise with Accounts Payable and Receivable as necessary
- Payroll process review and ongoing support to payroll team
- Oversee regulatory body reporting with regard to Federal and Provincial (BC) taxes, Work Safe BC,
- As requested, evaluate existing internal controls, processes, and financial reporting methodologies and determine any required corrective action
- Provide technical accounting guidance and support to ensure compliance of internal accounting policies and procedures in accordance to business requirements, industry standards, and federal regulations
- Participate in special projects such as financial systems upgrades, evaluation of new systems, or procedures
- Active management, mentoring, or guidance to any assigned direct or indirect reports or teams on regular tasks or special projects
- Various other ad hoc projects and analytics to support senior management

**THE REQUIREMENTS**:

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other related discipline, CPA required
- SOX control environment experience/knowledge an asset
- Minimum 3 years of experience (experience in a related industry is an asset)
- Demonstrated experience with general ledgers and financial reporting
- Experience with Microsoft Navision (or Business Central) and Jet Reports would be an asset
- Advanced User in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, V-lookup, )
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll practices, reports, and software
- Strong attention to detail and passion for accuracy
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills
- Self-directed and organized with effective time management skills
- Proven skills managing and mentoring a core accounting team
- Flexibility and ability to extend standard business hours as required to meet routine and unexpected deadlines
