Job Description**Program Details**:
Since February 2014 the YWCA Metro Vancouver has been offering the Strive program to assist youth in and from government care to successfully transition to adulthood. The program objective is to enhance participants’ life and employability skills and provide wraparound support services. The program is funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills training (MAEST) until March 31, 2025

Approximately ten youth participate in each 12 week Strive cycle, which consists of six weeks of group workshops, six weeks of individualized life plans and personalized coaching.

During the first six weeks Strive staff lead and collaborate workshops with a range of guest facilitators to deliver life and employability skills workshops, such as: career and education planning, resumes and cover letters, interview skills, financial literacy, art, nutrition and cooking, mindfulness, communication skills, etc.

For the following six weeks, staff work one-to-one with participants on their individualized action plans which may include securing employment, enrolling in further education or training, finding housing, and other goals related to the transition to adulthood. Strive staff may also facilitate and oversee paid work experience placements for participants. This can include on-the-job coaching.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Establish and foster relationships with youth aged 16-29.
- Conduct intakes and assessments to determine eligibility/risk and protective factors
- Assist participants in creating action plans which identify short and long-term goals and barriers to engagement while using a strength-based approach
- Provide referrals for participants including employment, housing mental health, substance use, education, finances, food and more.
- Respond to potential behavioural, mental health, emotional or substance use situations
- Maintain accurate client records and preserve client confidentiality
- Assist youth with accessing external community support and accompany if needed.
- Collaborate with the wider YWCA team and other relevant support workers.
- Collaborates in a team and under the report of the program manager.
- Workshop development and facilitation, including providing online workshops
- Providing in-person and online services, including delivery from the Career Zone four days a week
- Maintain up-to-date information on labour market trends, job postings, employment issues, community resources, education planning, volunteer opportunities, and other relevant employment related supports. Provide on-the-job training if requested.
- Other duties as required

**What you’ll need**:

- Bachelor’s in social work or equivalent education or work experience combined.
- Knowledge of youth care systems or minimum one year of experience working with at-risk youth.
- Motivated to work independently and as part of a team to deliver exemplary service
- Experience working with First Nations and Indigenous persons and understanding of cultural safety and sensitivity.
- Knowledge and understanding of MCFD services and community resources
- Knowledge of social determinants of health and trauma informed practices.
- Strong group facilitation skills and counselling training is an asset.
- Understanding the labour market in Metro Vancouver is an asset.
- Additional languages an asset
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
