The Kitchen Helper assists the Cook in preparing meals.

**HOURS**:

- Flexibility in hours is expected & work may include evenings and weekends
- Based on 35 hours per week for a total of 280 hours over 8 weeks
- 2 positions available starting June/July

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation
- Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and
- Assist the cook in the preparation of specific food items and with the serving of
- Clean the kitchen and kitchen equipment as
- May help in washing dishes, saucepans, pots and utensils used in the operation of the
- Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food
- Follows policy on the use of donated
- Perform other related duties as

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Canada Summer Job Eligibility**:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period ;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- No specific academic education required, must be able to communicate clearly orally and through written word
- Food Safe 1 basic required
- CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset

**Experience**:

- Preference given to those who have prior kitchen/restaurant helper experience

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:

- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
- Ability to lift more than 30 pounds
- Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- Current valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record an asset.
- Background check
- A clear vulnerable sector
- A clean drivers
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety
