We provide short-term respite and community supports as an essential break for families and primary care givers.

Working under the guidance of a Supervisor, the Support Worker provides direct care and assistance for client participation in recreational activities, community events, education, job and life skill building, while fostering independence.

Unity special needs services provide a variety of supports to individuals living with a physical or developmental disability, including: in-home personal care supports, volunteer/employment education, community engagement, life skills training, respite, and various day support options. Reporting to a Direct Supervisor, the Support Worker plans, executes, evaluates, documents activities and programs that maintain and promote the physical, emotional and cognitive well being of the clients. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
**Responsibilities**:

- Researching, reporting and recommending new and updated recreational, social and motivational activities and programs for Service clients.
- Implementing and evaluating person centered activities and programs;
- Monitoring and assessing participant’s physical, mental and emotional well-being and progress while adapting programs to meet their specific needs and goals.
- Providing support and direction to new trainees, volunteers and students.
- Assisting individuals with direct client care including feeding, toileting, hygiene, client supervision and monitoring social interaction.
- Reviewing and updating Person Centered Support Plans and Life Goal Programs on a Bi-annual basis.

Job Responsibilities:

- Follow and implement the clients' respite plan during each scheduled shift
- Assist clients with activities of daily living
- Assist clients to participate and engage in skill development opportunities
- Community Involvement
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times
- Advocates for best interest of the client
- Detailed Documentation
- Other duties as required
- Volunteer and job training where applicable
- Implement evidence based person centered plan, behavioural supports and future goals of the individual
- Provide direct and indirect support to people as required by their personal support plans.
- Assess the person’s verbal and nonverbal communication skills, utilize alternative communication systems and techniques, as required, and encourage self-expression of the people who receive support.

Job Requirements:

- Educational background in: SSW, DSW, CYW or related equivalent fields.
- Two years experience working in developmental services.
- Knowledge about ABA and Behaviour strategies is an asset
- Flexible/Casual hours
- Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Valid First Aid and CPR
- Food Handler Certificate considered an asset
- Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G), access to a reliable vehicle and Insurance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written).
- Good problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Detail Oriented
- Applied computer skills (Microsoft Office, Client Information Systems, Web browsing);
- Strong organization skills and the ability to multi-task
