**Course description**:
An introduction to the Punjabi language and is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of Punjabi. Basic grammatical structures and conversational skills will be introduced as well as the gurmukhi script in which Punjabi is most commonly written. Contextual background about the history of Punjabi and the various contexts in which it has been used will also be discussed in class.

**Salary**:
$52.26/hour
- Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail._

**Minimum qualifications**:
Graduate-level degree is required.

Demonstrated background in the specific area of the course (South Asian Studies and Punjabi language) is required.

Native or near native fluency in written and spoken Punjabi is required.

**Preferred qualifications**:
Graduate-level research in the relevant area of the course (South Asian Studies and Punjabi language) is preferred.

Experience in this course or a similar course is preferred.

**Description of duties**:
Grading of assignments, tests, and the final exam. Other responsibilities are as assigned by the instructor and may include: course orientation, preparation, meetings with the instructor, attending lectures, and invigilation of the final exam. Note: The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person. However, if this changes for any reason, as much advance notice as practicable will be given.
