Job Description Summary

Organizational Status

This position works with the Principal Investigator s research group, including graduate students and research assistants.

Work Performed
- Matches the identity to all physical and electronic documentation
- Selects the correct collection tubes for the lab tests that have been requested
- Labels each tube with the proper information for further sample analyses in the lab
- Fills out documents related to the samples
- Safely handles and transports all specimens
- Properly disposes of medical waste such as used needles
- Performs other duties as necessary

Supervision Received

Reports to the Principal Investigator however, on a day-to-day basis, this position works closely and receives direction from graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

High School graduation.Some additional training in phlebotomy or related field such as medical laboratory technology.Minimum of 2 years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience working in a medical or research laboratory. Pediatric experience is an asset. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to deal with people in a courteous, calm manner.Ability to follow and carry out instructions and SOP s and perform research-related procedures (e.g., drawing blood, labelling tubes).Must have flexibility - work may occur during the week day and/or weekend.
