- The Theatre Department at Capilano University is looking for a part-time instructor to be musical director for one or more of our courses. This instructor will have knowledge and experience in assessing the rhythm, tone, voice, and skills of each student. They will develop a good understanding of each student’s individual abilities, as well as their abilities when singing in groups.This instructor will lead and supervise rehearsals and may be (depending on the performance) responsible for hiring and conducting a band; The instructor is expected to play at all performances and sometimes may be the sole accompaniment provided, which may require an adept knowledge at adapting complex musical scores of solo piano accompaniment.
- Other responsibilities include holding auditions, drawing up rehearsal schedules, selecting and preparing music, working collaboratively with the director and choreographer, and remaining updated on developments in the music industry.**What you’ll bring**
- A bachelor’s degree, certification or equivalent qualification from an accredited college or training program is required. Professional experience will be considered.
- A Masters in a relevant area is preferred.
- Previous teaching at a University is required.
- Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, demonstrate patience and leadership skills, be energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
- Proven ability to teach adult learners and to create a learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
