The Catholic Cemeteries is seeking for an immediate hire for our seasonal lawn maintenance worker position. The Lawn Maintenance Worker is responsible the lawn maintenance and care for the three Catholic cemeteries in the Halifax Regional Municipality according to operational standards, specifications, policies and provincial legislation..

**Accountability**: The Lawn Maintenance worker reports directly to the Cemetery Grounds Operations Supervisor

**Work location**: Gate of Heaven cemetery, Mount Olivet cemetery, Holy Cross cemetery

**Duties and Responsibilities**: (main functions but not limited to the following)

The maintenance and operations activities of the three catholic cemeteries including but not limited to:

- Landscaping, maintenance of cemetery grounds including: clean up of grounds, mowing and trimming of lawns, trees and shrubs.
- Maintain hand and gas-powered tools including ride on mower, trimmers, pruners and blowers.
- Maintain and clean roads and pathways
- Remove garbage, dead flowers and plant materials from gravesites
- Report any ground holes, depressions and fallen headstones to the Cemeterian.
- Responsible for maintaining a work environment that is above all standards for Occupational Health and Workplace safety.
- Perform other manual duties to clean and maintain landscaped environments
- Other assigned duties as required

**Position Relationships**:
The Lawn Maintenance worker interacts on a regular basis with Cemetery Grounds Operations Supervisor, cemetery staff and Cemetery Manager. The Groundworker will at times work side by side with contractors, and/or service providers.

**Physical, Mental and Visual Demands**:

- Bending; frequent kneeling, squatting; stooping; twisting, crouching in order to locate, probing and mark graves; inspecting of graves
- Extensive walking and standing; frequent walking on rough surfaces
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Majority of work is performed outside in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to climb in and out of small spaces in a variety of weather conditions
- Stress related to the type of work environment

**Qualifications**:

- Education: minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
- A team player, with a positive attitude and the ability to multitask and set priorities
- Previous experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance, manual equipment (grass trimmer, tree pruner, leaf blower, gas powered ride on mower) and/or cemetery environment and a demonstrated interest in working outdoor is an asset.
- Experience or certification in one or more of the following: Arboriculture, Horticulture, Turf Management, Landscaping would be considered an asset
- Exemplifies values of integrity, trust, teamwork and excellence
- WHIMS, First Aid Training assets
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License and have access to a reliable vehicle
