**Sistering **is a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women and trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed.** **Our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do. We operate on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model.

Our programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, on-site Medical Clinic, On the Path to Employment and Spun Studio social enterprise. During COVID our 24/7 Drop In runs as one of the City Respite Centres, providing essential services.

Reporting to the Case Support Manager, the Peer Worker will be responsible for assisting the Back to Home Project with safely transitioning participants with housing and mental health and/or addictions needs using Sistering’s policies and practices.

The Peer Worker will work with community members to ensure the effective delivery of service from a client-centered, trauma informed, harm reduction, anti-oppressive perspective. This includes community mapping, accompaniments, housing help, harm reduction and other support services, as determined by each individual client. Furthermore, it is imperative to see each person as a unique individual; have a willingness to share their own experiences and an ability to engage people based in their level of receptivity and individual needs.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Program:_
- Perform community outreach and conduct community mapping to connect clients with relevant local services
- Provide information and education on safe drug use practices from a harm reduction perspective
- Facilitate groups on a variety of topics pertaining to basic life skills
- Participate in Harm Reduction workshops and programs with members of the community
- Promote the Back to Home program to the community to raise awareness
- Assist with accompany clients to appointments in the community
- Perform the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Acts

- Assist in the development and implementation of program goals
- Assist in providing housing stabilization, eviction prevention, and re-housing support services
- Assist in the evaluation of outreach and activities
- Data collection and input (training provided)
- Responsible for weekly submissions of their own work timesheets
- Assist in creating monthly resource binders for clients
- Maintain accurate records and complete statistical and qualitative reporting as required while working in the community and at other locations
- Collaborate with department in assisting with the day-to-day running of the building
- Adhere to all Sistering policies, procedures and confidentiality

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Mandatory:_
- Personal experience and/or knowledge of drug use, mental health, and homelessness
- Willingness to utilize knowledge of lived experience to connect with community
- Have an understanding of and commitment to harm reduction principles and practices
- Have knowledge of concerns and challenges that may exist in accessing harm reduction/health services in supportive housing.
- Knowledge of the community and social responses to substance use
- Ability to de-escalate conflicts, and confidence in asserting and maintaining strong boundaries
- Knowledge of street drugs and high risk lifestyles
- Responsible, reliable and punctual
- Group facilitation skills
- Can work independently with little supervision

- Good people skills - open, non-judgmental, and willing to learn
- Respects and values the diversity of communities and individuals
- Self-identify s female or trans folks
- Self-identify as a female or trans folks
- Experience intervening in overdoses and/or training, including Naloxone administration, considered an asset
- Intermediate computer and documentation skills specifically with Excel and Word an asset

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:
This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24/7 operation, fast paced, intense environment. There may be the risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations. Sistering is a pet friendly facility and as such, employees can expect to be in the proximity of animals.
