**Term**:Permanent position

**Accountability**:The Respite Support Coordinator is accountable to the Program Director.

Respite care is a family support service that provides temporary or short-term care/support for a family member who has a disability or diverse support needs. Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to live actively and participate in community activities and allows parents/guardians time for themselves.

Through Autism Nova Scotia, individuals and families can onboard Nova Scotia's central region respite database to connect with vetted independent respite providers and other respite resources including: community events, respite funding options, workshops, programs, and educational material.

**General Duties**:

- Onboard new families and respite-support seekers onto the database, providing technical support as needed
- Interview and onboard new respite providers
- General maintenance of respite database, including communicating with web developing to ensure ongoing maintenance of the website
- Provide matches between families and fitting respite providers
- Support community members and services users in becoming familiarized in the respite database and how to use it effectively
- Connect with community organizations and services in order to provide effective and supportive navigation to families and individuals
- Provide navigation support to families and individuals to both internal and external program and services
- Develop on-going knowledge of disability and mental health support landscape
- Researching and preparing information, presentations, and resources that will be shared with families, professionals, and prospective community partners
- Conduct monthly onboarding meetings and information sessions for families, respite providers, individuals seeking support, as well as the general community
- Open and effective communication with Respite Coordinators throughout the province
- Participation in Respite Partnership meetings
- Maintenance of related records, statistics, written reports, including monthly and annual reports submitted to the Program Director and Department of Community Services.
- Redevelopment of Respite Provider Training and development of resources for respite providers and families.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures including those identified in the Policies and Procedures Manual and the Staff Manual;
- Administrative tasks related to event planning;
- Other duties as required.

**Education and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field preferred, relevant experience with a diploma will be considered.
- 1-3 years experience working with individuals with autism and/or disabilities
- Experience working with individuals with mental illness considered an asset

**Skills**
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal);
- Strong working knowledge of evidence-based strategies for supporting individuals with autism;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Calm professional demeanor under pressure;
- Strong computer skills
- Strong working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel
- Proficiency or experience in internal communication software (such as MS Teams) and external communication software (such as Zoom) considered an asset
- Ability to form strong professional relationships with community partners, participants, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently.
- Analytic ability to collect data for the purposes of program evaluation and program management.
- Self-starter who can work independently and enthusiastically with our team.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking and ability to practically and professionally adapt
- Strong organizational skills, analytical skills and keen attention to detail

**Essential & Other Related Job Duties**:

- A Valid criminal record check and a vulnerable sector check is required for this position
- First Aid certification / non-violent crisis intervention, or willingness to acquire
