Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Securities Operations, the Analyst, Derivatives Documentation is responsible for timely receipt and execution of legal contracts pertaining to OTC derivative transactions and affirmation of clearable derivative products. The confirmation process is a key control as the confirmation agreement is the legal evidence of a derivatives trade. HOOPP relies on this process to ensure accurate reporting of HOOPP’s derivative position in our financial statements. The Analyst, Derivatives Documentation must keep abreast of upcoming regulatory changes and frequently co-ordinates and liaises with HOOPP’s legal department to ensure HOOPP becomes compliant with the mandated changes. This is particularly complex due to the nature of HOOPP’s investment strategies combined with the rapid growth in derivative activity. This is critical as HOOPP needs to ensure regulatory compliance ahead of deadlines so as not to disrupt trading activity done by Investment Management.
What you will do:
- Responsible for reviewing economic details of the confirmation against those of the trade details on the original trade ticket as well as those captured in Simcorp Dimension (HOOPP’s back office system) and ensuring that any discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner by following up with Investment Management or the counterparty as required.- Liaise with personnel in Legal Services & Governance to ensure that legal details of the contracts are appropriate and in accordance with the Master ISDA agreement.- Investigate and assist personnel in Legal Services & Governance, Investment Management and Investment Finance to obtain necessary instructions to successfully negotiate Master Confirmation Agreements.- Advise management of regulatory changes that impact Investment Operations and keeping abreast of changes in ISDA agreements and protocols.- Build and transfer knowledge and understanding of complex derivative strategies and products to Sr. Associates in the team.- Monitor the Middleware platforms throughout the day and coordinate with Investment Management to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.- Perform maintenance of HOOPP’s contract archive in accordance with HOOPP’s records management practices to ensure compliance with applicable HOOPP policies and legislated requirements.- Adding value to Securities Operations and Investment Management by analyzing process changes to auto and manual affirmations workflow via Bilateral and Straight-Through-Processes and recommending processes that increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.- Work collaboratively with other groups in Investment Finance, IT Investment Solutions, Investment Management and Legal Services & Governance with issue resolution and new initiatives surrounding legal documentation.- Assist with the negations of MCA contracts with HOOPP’s counterparties by comparing and reviewing draft MCAs to MCA templates.
What you bring:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in financial sector, preferably in capital markets.- University degree in Business or related discipline.- Completion or enrolment in a professional designation program (CFA,CMA).- Strong knowledge of derivative instruments such as swaps, options and futures gained through industry experience.- Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction with Investment Management, Legal Services & Governance, and various solution providers such as confirmation platforms.- Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable.- Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness are very important along with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
