The Peer Counsellor is responsible for providing confidential peer counselling services to our anonymous helpline callers. The peer counsellor will use empathetic and supportive techniques to support callers. Currently we are looking to hire peer counsellors with the following language skills, Arabic and Somali.

**Role Responsibilities**
- Have access to a working phone with reliable service. Have access to a working computer/ device with reliable internet access.
- Conduct professional counselling sessions with helpline callers.
- Set and help achieve goals, address challenges, and support the usage of relevant external resources.
- Support the development of educational resources about mental health for public use as needed.
- Adhere to helpline guidelines and policies when conducting day to day activities.
- Maintain a calm, professional, and respectful demeanor during every call.
- Update call log at the end of each shift to ensure all documentation is complete.
- Communicate with helpline manager to report issues, seek guidance, or debrief as required.
- Ensure confidentiality of callers as well as any other highly sensitive information is maintained.
- Attend and participate in Internal/external trainings to keep up to date on role requirements.
- Support the Outreach team when needed.
- Support the Resources team to build and maintain the organizations resources list.

**Qualifications and Experiences**
- Focus on Psychology, Social Work, Therapy, Counselling or Psychotherapy.
- Experience in motivational interviewing.
- Knowledge of Islamic traditions and conduct.
- Value the intrinsic worth of others irrespective of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religious determination.
- Be open to feedback and willing to act upon feedback provided.
- Be able to offer unconditional positive regard to others regardless of their life story and life choices.
