**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a **Laborer **to work at our Shepard Shop (_9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6)_. The Laborer is integral to the smooth operation of the production facility responsible for tasks such as material handling, machine operation, shop maintenance, and more. This role will provide General labor for the Assembly department with the opportunity to be indentured into an apprenticeship after 1 year of employment., indentured Pipefitter.

**KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI)**:
**MATERIAL HANDLING & MACHINING** **(Weighting 80%)**:
**_ Material Handling_**:

- Safely operate forklifts and cranes to load and unload materials.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or accidents.
- Assist in inventory management by organizing and tacking materials in the shop

**_ Machine Operations_**:

- Operate band saws and other cutting machinery to precisely cut materials according to specifications.
- Perform deburring and finishing operations on machined products to ensure smooth surfaces and proper fitment.

**MAVERICK MINDSET** **(Weighting 20%)**:
**_ Shop Maintenance_**:

- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the manufacturing shop, including work areas and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.

**_ Quality Assurance_**:

- Assist in quality control inspections by identifying and reporting and defects or discrepancies in materials or finished products.
- Follow established procedures and standards to maintain product quality and consistency.

**_ Safety Compliance_**:

- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses immediately to the appropriate personnel.
- Participate in daily toolbox talks or safety walks in the production facility or yard.

**_ Team Collaboration_**:

- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the structural department and mill to achieve production goals and deadlines.
- Communicate any issues or concerns related to materials, equipment, or processes to supervisors or team leaders.

**QUALIFIC**ATIONS**:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, alcohol, and drug test
- Familiarity with various pipe materials/grades would be considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to assembly/fabrication work.
- Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual labour and work in various conditions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Forklift and crane operation certification is preferred.
- Basic understanding of machining processes and equipment.
- Able to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
