Summer Camp Counsellor

1 Full Time Term / Summer Position

**Salary**: $17.25-18.50/hr.

Term: July 2 to August 30, 2024

Working: 35-40 hours/week (shifts will vary); Camps, Recreation Programs

Reports To: Camp Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Deliver programs, following flexible program planning while enforcing camp rules and policies.
- Provides high-quality, programs that meet identified program outcomes, standards and requirements.
- Creates and fosters a safe, welcoming environment for all participants, their parents/guardians and other contributors.
- Lead program participants and volunteers in a professional, safe and engaging manner.
- Ensures a safe, clean programming space, prior, during and following a program.
- Successfully completes pre-program training courses as required.
- Supports any and all programs or events assigned, including Canada Day, Calmar Days and other special events.
- Lead and supervise in a variety of activities (including games, crafts, cooking and outdoor adventures), working indoor and outdoor environments, swim with participants, setting up & dismantling of program equipment and materials.
- Offer superior customer service and leadership to internal and external patrons.
- Assist in maintaining program records including incident reports, first aid reports, behavioral documentation, program feedback and daily attendance.
- Know and understand how to execute all emergency procedures, guidelines and information.
- Actively attend and participate in scheduled meetings, training sessions and special staff events.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Current Standard First Aid as asset. (Can Train)
- Minimum 16 years of age in currently enrolled in high school or university.
- Basic knowledge of the benefits and principles of arts, culture, recreation, physical literacy, and fundamental movement skills.
- Knowledge of healthy child and/or youth development.
- Knowledge in the principles of inclusion, diversity, including but not limited to, LGTBQ+, First Nations, special needs.
- Knowledge of program development and delivery.
- Knowledge of a diverse and wide range of activities in program delivery areas. (Arts and/or crafts, drama, sport(s), music, active and passive games, etc.)
- A positive and energetic personality who is hard working and team oriented.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- Possess exceptional organization and time management skills to effectively multi-task & prioritize capacities to work independently and/or as a team player.
- Effective skills in communicating, both verbally and written, with co-workers, supervisors, participants and parents.
- Self-motivated, punctual, enthusiastic and takes initiative without prompting.
- Able to provide a Child Intervention Check and Criminal Records Check - Vulnerable Sector Check.
