IT Technology Specialist I

Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is an independent, resident-based research institute devoted to foundational issues in theoretical physics at the highest levels of international excellence. With a mission to advance our understanding of the universe at the most fundamental level, and stimulate the breakthroughs that could transform our future. Perimeter also trains the next generation of physicists through innovative programs and shares the excitement and wonder of science with students, teachers and the general public.
The **Technology Specialist I** is a member of the Technology Services department at Perimeter. The **Technology Specialist I** ensures the delivery of technologies and high-quality customer service to support academic, scientific, and administrative activities at Perimeter. In this role, the **Technology Specialist I** provides level one technical support to all Perimeter residents and serves as a liaison between the Technology Service department and the broader Perimeter community.
**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provide direct technical guidance and support to end-users
- Serve as a liaison between Perimeter community and L2/L3 technical staff
- Ensure that service requests and incidents are logged, assigned, and resolved in accordance with service level agreements and ITSM best practices
- Complete on-boarding/off-boarding processes as dictated by Perimeter policies and procedures
- Maintain a current end-user device inventory
- Hardware/OS: Laptops, cellphones (android and apple), tablets, etc.
- Security: Antivirus, encryption, VPN, ZTNA
- Centralized storage: Dropbox and OneDrive
- Productivity software: Google Workspace apps, Microsoft Office apps
- Collaboration: Slack, Zoom, Teams
- Research software: Matlab, Mathematica, Overleaf
- Provide technical support for IT centralized services: printers, communication technologies
- Work with different technology units to create and deliver end-user documentation and training
- Monitor and assist with maintaining IT’s intranet web pages and ensures the accuracy of information
- Participate in Perimeter’s incident response procedures and digital forensics
- Provide user-level support and troubleshooting of classrooms and meeting rooms
- Assist with lectures and conferences providing end-user and technical support
- Participate in and provide technical support in vendor technology reviews
- Perform other duties as assigned and participate in project teams as required
**Required Education, Skills and Abilities**
- Post secondary education in IT related field, complemented by IT industry certifications with focus on management of on-premises/cloud systems, information security, and Operating Systems
- Knowledge of current hardware and new computing technologies and a professional approach and positive attitude with a willingness to learn new technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to adapt to provide support in person or virtually to different audiences
- Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to handle multiple, sometimes changing priorities
- Experience with Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems
- Familiarity with computer networking fundamentals and information security best practices
- Ability to troubleshoot software, hardware, and network issues
- Experience with IT equipment procurement processes
- Proven ability to be discreet and to maintain confidential information
- The service focused nature of this position requires the _**_Technology _**_Specialist I _**_to work onsite at the Institute daily and participate in Perimeter's paid rotational on-call program._
