**Term**: September, 2023 until July 2024

**Hours**:35-hours per week

**Salary Classification**:$32.96 per hour ($60,000 per year) plus an amount in lieu of benefits.

**DESCRIPTION**

The Governance Coordinator is responsible for assisting to facilitate focus groups, Nation consultation, and Council engagement related to the necessary components of governance practice.

The Governance Coordinator is tasked to develop a framework of good governance in consultation with the Nation and following an engagement and consultation process, any proposed bylaw contributing to the governance law will be put to the community for ratification.

Under the general supervision of the Band Administrator (BA), the Governance
Coordinator will participate as an integral member of the senior leadership team, providing review, advice, and general practical and technical support in the development of policies, laws, regulations, resolutions, memorandums of understanding and motions, to ensure legal compliance and consistency.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Responsibilities**

Reporting to the Band Manager, the Governance Coordinator will oversee governance initiatives as determined by Chief and Council. The Governance Coordinator shall fulfill portfolio responsibilities through meaningful community engagement to ensure that the voice of the community is embedded in the advancement of governance development initiatives.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of Saugeen First Nation governance, administration, and general issues of concern to Indigenous people.
- Knowledge of First Nations historical, political, and legal issues.
- Respect for Indigenous culture.
- Proven experience conducting research and analysis, clearly synthesizing information and providing clear briefings.
- Comfortable with making recommendations and establishing processes.
- Experience facilitating meetings, delivering presentations, and managing projects.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated project management and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to create and manage a budget with strong working knowledge of Microsoft
- Office Software Suites.
- Exhibits a high degree of initiative and self-direction.
- Excellent analytical, judgement, and consensus abilities.
- Innovative and creative thinker, with ability to think outside of the box.
- Highly organized and pragmatic thinker, with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively at both the process/detail level, as well as the big picture/outcome level.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with the Band Administrator.
- Willingness to travel within community to lead and facilitate engagement sessions.
- Knowledge of virtual meeting programs, including Zoom and Teams.

**Duties and Other Functions**
- Support the effective implementation of governance strategies.
- Develop a work plan to coordinate and administer First Nation citizen engagement activities, including focus groups and consultative community meetings related to the various components contributing to governance.
- Ensure ongoing communication updates to Chief and Council and First Nation citizens.
- Collaboratively work with Chief and Council, and Saugeen First Nation as required to support advancement of governance initiatives.
- Assist in addressing issues related to the implementation of governance initiatives.
- Provide strategic advice to support the effective implementation of Saugeen First
- Nation governance initiatives.
- Support community outreach activities for Chief and Council and Administration for the purpose of providing information related to components of a governance law.
- Support and assist in the development and implementation of social media activities as they are related to the governance strategy.
