The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for the stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest and most diversified port. Our mandate as a Canada Port Authority, as set out by the _Canada Marine Act _, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safely and responsibly through the Port of Vancouver. That means providing infrastructure and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic and cargo within the port. It also means we carry out reviews of proposed activities and developments on federal port lands and waters to determine whether a project can go ahead without impacts to the environment and community that cannot be mitigated.

The _Environmental Permitting Specialist, Infrastructure Division _will:
- Act as day-to-day lead on permitting aspects of assigned projects ensuring VFPA expectations and interests are continually met. Solicit expert advice on technical issues, and provide regular progress updates and communicate emerging issues
- Collaborate with project teams to determine the best approach and activities necessary for executing specific projects, and document as work plans and evaluate implementation.
- Provide VFPA representation at Project Team meetings and meetings with environmental regulatory agencies, community, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders, where tact and diplomacy will be required to facilitate competing priorities to ensure VFPA interests are met
- Develop project schedules achieving strategic milestones, in collaboration with the Project Team. Track performance and highlight risks for delay. Coordinate with procurement workstream to ensure schedules and deliverables remain aligned.
- Participate in the development of terms of reference for environmental and regulatory scopes and prepare, as required, requests for proposal for selection of specialist consultants to carry out the defined scope.
- Prepare project status updates and presentations, as required.
- Coordinate and participate in post project reviews and document process improvement recommendations.
- Coordinate and participate in environmental management, monitoring and follow-up programs as required for assigned projects.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
**SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES**
Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills are essential, as are good judgment and sensitivity to a variety of stakeholder perspectives and an ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff internally and externally. Must be a self-starter who also enjoys working within a team environment; must handle pressure and competing priorities well; and must be organized and able to work to deadlines.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
Normal office environment including some exposure to the waterfront and construction sites, in any weather conditions, may be required. Occasional evening and weekend work during off hours, to participate in public meetings and open houses during certain periods of the permitting process.
