EVENING SUPPORT WORKER (3 PM - 11 PM)

EMMA MATERNITY HOUSE SOCIETY

Emma House Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide housing and support for pregnant women and youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness; empowering them to move out of vulnerability and into a healthy and sustainable life for them and their child.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Reports to Program Director
- Works collaboratively with Key Workers
- Oversees activities of current Emma House Residents

**Responsibilities**:
**1. Program**

1.1 Work to prevent the neglect of babies and ensure all babies are taken care of. The safety and wellbeing of all babies/children are Emma House’s top priority.

1.2 Oversee activities in the house and by residents; follow the client directives issued by the Program Director.

1.2.1 Collaborate with resident support agencies, family, and natural supports as per resident support plan and report back to the Program Director.

1.2.2 Act under the instruction of the Program Director to provide support to each mother and baby according to Emma House and Child Family Services plan.

1.2.3 Support clients through advocating on their behalf when appropriate as per Program Director’s plan by attending meetings, court appearances, etc.

1.2.4 Work alongside residents birthing support team and Mentoring Mom in support of Program Director for each resident.

1.2.5 Provide crisis intervention when needed.

1.2.6 Support the dignity of residents by seeking to identify their needs in a respectful manner.

1.2.7 Conduct resident room checks and record findings in communication notes if the client’s room did not pass the check.

1.2.8 Advocate on behalf of residents to create, obtain, or secure services, including job training, housing, and social services.

1.3 Support the Emma House Life Skills Program with the delivery of group and individual sessions with residents. Provide feedback on programming to the Program Director.

1.4 Support the Program Director by ensuring Emma House rules and policies are followed by current residents and any volunteers.

1.5 Other duties as requested by the Program Director.

**2. Operations**

2.1 Ensure Emma House’s cleanliness is maintained and perform cleaning duties as outlined by the Program Director.

2.2 Assist residents as required to plan and prepare the evening meal.

2.3 Complete all items on the Daily Task Checklist.

2.4 Provide open communication and dialogue with Program Director with regards to any concerns about fellow staff, students, and/or volunteers.

2.5 Follow all policies and procedures and directives under the leadership of the Program Director.

2.6 Attend all staff meetings.

2.7 Participate in the planning and delivery of Emma House community functions such as celebrations, fundraisers, meetings, etc.

**3. Administration**

3.1 Support the Program Director through the diligent, accurate, and consistent record-keeping in regard to clients and programming.

3.1.1 Keep a log on all client activities and communication in Case Notes; keep daily logs for shift change over in Daily Logbook.

3.1.2 Answer the Emma House phone and keep an information log. Pass on messages to the appropriate people.

3.1.3 Initiate communication and check-in with residents; hold residents accountable.

3.1.4 Conduct intake referrals for potential clients.

**Education, Training, Experience, and Personal Requirements**:

- Post-secondary education in fields such as Youth/Child Care Worker, Social Work, or related studies.
- First Aid and CPR (Training provided by Emma House if required).
- Possess and/or be willing to attain mandatory training in FOIP, Brain Story, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills.
- Previous education or experience in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention is preferred.
- Valid Driver's license.
- Willing to take direction and guidance from the Emma House management team.
- Team Player.
- Understand and be committed to our vision of "healthy mothers and babies living inthe community.
- Work ethically and demonstrate an understanding of ethical behaviour, communication, and business practices.
- Establish, build and maintain positive working relationships with residents, and team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully.
- Focus on client needs; anticipate, understand and respond to the needs of our residents and work collaboratively with their support network.
- Foster teamwork.
- Willingness to act as a mentor and establish supportive mentorship roles with practicum students and volunteers.
- Ability to make decisions under the guidance and framework of the Emma House operational protocols as well as the training and direction of the Program Manager.
- Ability to assess situations and make decisions in the best interest of Emma House and its residents.
- Possess strong organizational and administrative skills
- Possess a servanthood attitude.

**Salary**: Up to $18.00 per hour
