**Move to the camp from June 17 to August 26, 2024**

**About Camp Northway - Wendigo**

Northway is the oldest Girl's summer camp in Canada. Campers are female but staff are a mix of male and female. We offer a traditional overnight summer camp experience for campers as well as canoe trips in the backcountry of Algonquin Park.

**Job Summary**:
We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced Canoe Trip Guides to join our team for an unforgettable summer adventure in Algonquin Park. As a Canoe Trip Guide, you will play a pivotal role in providing campers with exciting and educational wilderness experiences, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Lead Canoe Trips**:

- Lead flat water canoe trips in the interior of Algonquin Park.
- As the guide, you will ensure the safety and well-being of campers and share your knowledge of the natural environment, wildlife, and camping skills with campers.
- Experience with Algonquin Park is not required however experience camping, paddling and sterning a canoe is required. We also provide training during the pre-camp period.
- As the guide, you will navigate the trip to the designated lakes on the trip permit. Trips vary in length from 1 night to 9 nights for a total of approx. 40 days of tripping throughout July and August. Trips consist of 6 people: two guides, 1 counsellor and 3 campers (aged between 7 and 15). Junior guides are paired with Senior Guides. We are looking for both junior and senior guides.
- All guides will liaise with the Director of Tripping to ensure the trip staff are prepared and have all necessary equipment.
- When not on trip, the Guides have time off and are not responsible for watching over campers. Accommodations in camp are rustic; all staff and campers live in platform tents, bathe in the lake (no showers) and use outhouses as washrooms.

**Pre-Camp Participation**:

- From June 17-23 you will assist in camp set-up: erect camper tents, move furnishings into tents; move camp equipment - canoes, sailboats, etc. to proper outdoor locations; open and set up camp buildings for summer use; clear debris/brush; move building materials and equipment, and other physical tasks as needed for camp set up.
- From June 23-30 you will participate in all-staff camp training prior to campers arriving on July 1

**Safety and First Aid**:

- Hold certifications in Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard (NL is preferred and comes with a higher salary) and Standard First Aid.
- Provide basic first aid and emergency response as needed when on a trip.
- Attend Wilderness First Aid training provided on-site during pre-camp.
- Learn how to use InReach satellite communication device, and appropriate use in emergency situations.

**Camp Community**:

- Foster a positive camp environment.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for campers, promote teamwork and good sportsmanship.
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to ensure a seamless camp experience.

**Qualifications**:

- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Previous experience in canoe tripping and wilderness camping.
- Able to stern and portage a canoe.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Passion for the outdoors and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
- Bronze Cross and/or NL and Standard First Aid certifications.
- Positive attitude, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.
