Summary

In support of the mission and vision of LEO (Lambton Elderly Outreach), the Van Driver works closely with the Program Coordinator(s) to enhance the quality of life for seniors and adults with disabilities by providing safe transportation to and from various destinations. They will contribute to the ongoing development of the transportation program and will work as part of a team to ensure the needs of our clients are being met through quality Community Support Services.

Core Competencies
- Experience and confidence driving in a variety of adverse weather/road conditions
- Knowledge of travel in the area serviced by our transportation program
- Experience working with adults with disabilities and adults who are frail and elderly

Job Duties
- Assignment of work will be based on the needs of the client, driver availability and may include weekend and statutory holiday coverage
- Meets, loads, and safely transports the clients according to the schedule prepared by the coordinator. Clients may be independent, with mobility aide, in a wheelchair, or require stretcher transport
- Review schedule for the day, discuss any concerns with the coordinator
- Assist clients by providing door to door service
- Ensure client safety by following policies and procedures regarding embarking/disembarking from van and lift
- Report concerns to the coordinator in a timely manner
- Submit gasoline invoices and completed circle checks to coordinator daily
- Complete request for van maintenance to coordinator
- Adhere to agency policy and procedures
- Contribute to team and service efficiency
- Ensure proper restraints are used correctly in place for all riders (i.e. restraints, seat belts)

**Requirements**:

- Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screen
- Clean Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract for 3 years
- Valid Ontario “G” or higher driver’s license
- 3+ years of driving experience (commercial passenger experience an asset)

**Working Conditions**
- Concentration required for safe operation of vehicle
- Constant motion and noise from vehicle
- Constant awareness of comfort of all riders
- Maneuvering of wheelchairs/stretcher from homes to van and return
- Operation of lift and restraints of wheelchairs
- Driving hazards from weather, road, and other drivers
- Time pressure from late riders and busy schedules
