**Contributions & Impact**:
By providing peer health support to shelter clients you will support community inclusion and health related activities amongst shelter clients to improve their health outcomes. Your efforts will increase shelter client awareness and knowledge of health topics and increase their comfort with accessing health related programs and services, so that they will feel comfortable accessing them on their own and/or promoting those services with other shelter clients.

Day to day you will:

- Establish rapport with individuals by creating bingo games related to health topics that clients have identified.
- Provide listening and problem-solving support. Provide encouragement and ongoing relationships with peers.
- Create access through information and referral to a range of health and related community resources.
- Reduce isolation through relationship and linking to community.
- Prepare detailed reports on all weekly shifts.
- Participate in orientation and training and attend all supervision meetings.
- Participate in high priority professional development in consultation with program supervisor.
- Collaborate with placement agency staff and volunteers.
- Participate in client and staff meetings and other meetings and committee work as appropriate to support both service delivery and organizational goals.
- Collect, analyze and report on data and relevant information and participate in research.
- Approach situations from a Social Determinants of Health perspective to improve health outcomes for individual clients and/or for the development of community health and well-being.
- Work individually and collaboratively in a manner that preserves privacy and confidentiality to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives and activities.
- Ensure client safety and minimize risk to clients.
- Work in a manner that demonstrates self-reflection and personal accountability for work performance consistent with the YW Vision, Mission and Guiding Principles and Code of Ethics

**Mandatory Requirements**
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-Level C certification and an up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Record Check (required).
- Training certificates in crisis prevention and intervention (asset).
- Vaccine Verification - As a condition of employment you are required to provide confirmation that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 or have proof of valid exemption satisfactory to the employer. You must acknowledge and agree to comply with any future vaccine policy requirements as an ongoing condition of employment at the YW Kitchener-Waterloo.

**Hours & Compensation**:
Hours / Shift: Monday through Friday. Gradual increase in hours per week over the coming year: 3 hours for 12 weeks, then 8 hours for next 12 weeks, then 16 hours for the next 13 weeks, then 24 hours for the final 13 weeks. Exact schedule to be discussed during interview process.
Start Date: ASAP End Date: October 31st, 2023 (with possibility for extension based on funding).
