**Job Purpose**
Weld Inspectors are responsible for all aspects of inspection and Quality Control in the facility alongside interfacing with fabrication crews. **This position requires flexibility, with the possibility of night shifts. Standard working hours are 40 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 50 hours when necessary.**
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Understanding and knowledge of owner and client specifications
- Understanding of Academy’s QC Manual
- Confirming that the dimensions of spools meet fabrication tolerances
- Verifying all elements and signing off on red stamps for cut sheets
- Visually examining welds
- Verifying material grade/spec and heat numbers
- Inspecting flange faces and bevel preps
- Confirming orientations and dimensioning spools
- Flagging and coordinating NDE
- Other responsibilities (e.g., spools from PWHT, repads)
- Maintaining logs and daily tracking sheets (e.g., spools dimensioned per day)
- Understanding priority sequencing and working accordingly
- Notifying the QC Lead of defects or other quality issues
- Working with welders when defects are found
- Evaluating defects in materials (e.g., D-Meter checks or dent depth) and determining acceptability (based on criteria)
- Ensuring welders and pipefitters follow WPS (e.g., preheat, uphand welding)
- Recording welding parameters (amps, volts, travel speed) when required
**Qualifications**
- **CSA 178.2 Level II** certification required
- **CSA W47.1/W59 Level II** certification is an asset
- Journeyman Welder ticket is an asset
- 5+ years’ experience in Quality Control with a strong technical background (emphasis on pipe fabrication preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of similar experience in a fabrication shop required
- High School Diploma mandatory
- Previous experience in a QC office required
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines
- Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy

**Working Conditions**
The incumbent is required to work in both a shop and office environment with moderate noise. They may be exposed to inclement weather (e.g., slippery surfaces, cold conditions), and may need to walk stairs, carry objects, drive, or perform other routine tasks. Flexibility for night shifts is required.
**Physical Requirements**
The role requires close visual acuity for activities such as:
- Preparing and analyzing data and figures
- Transcribing and extensive reading
- Viewing a computer terminal for extended periods
- Standing and sitting for long periods during inspections or office tasks
Pay: $58.00-$63.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 50 per week
