**POSITION**: Animal Control Officer 2

**STATUS**: Permanent; Full-Time

**SHIFT**: Sunday to Thursday. 35 hours per week. Various shifts.

**LOCATION**: Burnaby, BC

**CLASSIFICATION**: CUPE 1622

**WAGE**: $26.59 per hour

**CLOSING DATE**: Open until filled

**About the Position**:
The position calls for an effective communicator that can handle difficult discussions and provide conflict resolution with diplomacy. The officer will enforce applicable municipal bylaws and provincial laws/regulations within the City of Burnaby. This includes investigating complaints regarding animal related bylaw violations such as aggressive, stray or barking dogs and animal cruelty complaints. Ensuring a focus on animal welfare, public safety, and enhancing the human-animal bond through education, this position ensures all complaints are concluded to the satisfaction of the Burnaby Animal Centre Manager.

**Some specific duties**:
**Qualifications you need to have**:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers’ License and driver’s abstract
- Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare and animal handling skills
- A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, behaviour and more common diseases
- Two years practical experience or equivalent
- Completion of Bylaw Level 1 at the Justice Institute is preferred
- Completion of Animal Control Level 1 at Langara College is an asset
- Knowledge of the geography of the City of Burnaby
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work within a demanding work schedules with mínimal supervision (Effective Time Management)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a positive manner
- Ability to keep information confidential
- Demonstrated ability in stress management
- Ability to work co-operatively as a team player and demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Word and Outlook
- Criminal Record Check
- Position is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, pushing and pulling which requires an individual with the ability to maintain a level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties.
- Ability to work weekends on a flexible schedule
